Chemnitz draws a positive conclusion from the year in which the Saxon industrial city served as European Capital of Culture. "The people of Chemnitz and the Capital of Culture region have truly outdone themselves this year," says Stefan Schmidtke, Program Director of Chemnitz 2025 gGmbH. "They made Chemnitz 2025 their project, and they succeeded magnificently. The active participation of so many people generated tremendous creative energy, which impressed me greatly. I am convinced that the people here will carry this new sense of self into the future, and the Capital of Culture effect is only just beginning to unfold." Mayor Sven Schulze adds: "With the official end of the Capital of Culture year, something new is beginning. We will remain a city of culture, we will remain part of the European community, and we will carry this energy with us into the future." Miles Greenberg works with duration as a state of transformation.
In “Restless Sanctuaries”, he and the Folkwang students explored how a body changes across hours — how presence shifts atmosphere, how movement becomes trance, how vulnerability becomes form.

The performances approached the body as sacred matter:
not to shock, not to endure pain, but to access another register of perception — where time itself becomes visible.

Currently in dialogue with museums, ritual practices, Black embodiment, and the politics of looking.

A piece that takes st******se seriously as an artistic form while simultaneously deconstructing it. It can be seen in Hamburg until Saturday before moving to Munich's HochX from January 16th to 18th. Ligia Lewis has long stretched choreography beyond the stage — into gesture, structure, refusal, desire.
Her exhibition “I’m Not Here Forrrrr…” at Gropius Bau presents her work as a spatial, relational practice: bodies as sculptures, time as tension, performance as a state of becoming rather than a product.

At its center: “Wayward Chant”, conceived for the museum’s courtyard — unfolding slowly, shifting daily, culminating in two full-length performances on 28 & 29 November.

Until 18 January. Berlin.

The Johann Strauss anniversary celebrations entered their final stretch this weekend with the premiere of Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui's "Bal Impérial" in Geneva, where the performance (linked to Cherkaoui and Damien Jalet's "Boléro," which premiered in 2013) will be presented again tomorrow evening before moving to Vienna's MuseumsQuartier in December. The co-producer is the label "Johann Strauss 2025 Vienna." We will report on it in our December issue; until then, admire the impressive production photos. (Photo: © Gregory Batardon)

There may be some who missed Amit Noy's performance in Michael Keegan-Dolan's "The Only Tune" at London's Sadler's Wells from Thursday until yesterday. But even for them, there's still a chance to get to know the son of a Mexican mother and an Israeli father, who now lives in Marseille: We're featuring Noy in our "Newcomer" section for our November issue (photo: Louisson Vendassi). First pic – and you know it… This is “Sleeping Beauty” aka Dornröschen in a new production by choreographer Bridget Breiner at the Deutsche Oper am Rhein. Tchaikovsky's beautiful score, combined with new music by Tom Smith, brings the beloved Brothers Grimm fairy tale to life in a stunning production by the Ballett am Rhein in Düsseldorf. Of cours … we will have a review!

At New York City Ballet’s Fall Fashion Gala, choreography meets high fashion:
Ratmansky’s layered “Voices,” Reisen’s playful spatial weavings, Peck and Mejia in
Forsythe’s razor-edged brilliance — and Jamar Roberts’ collaboration with
fashion visionary Iris van Herpen, conjuring winged figures and mechanized futures.
