Steven Banks, premieres his new work "to be free" this summer at three festivals: Chamber Music North West, Bridgehampton Chamber Music and La Jolla SummerFest, who co-commissioned the piece.

"to be free" was written as a reflection on the 250th anniversary of the United States, and as a celebration of the life and work of legendary singer, songwriter, pianist, and activist, Nina Simone. The piece reflects on the innate human desire for liberation and what it means to be truly free.

Banks will also perform in other concerts at Chamber Music North West and La Jolla SummerFest, as well as at the Aspen Music Festival and the Portland Chamber Music Festival.

Looking back at last week, when both KD SCHMID Berlin and London swapped the office for a day out to mark the end of the season.

The Berlin office headed up Teufelsberg, an artificial hill built from wartime rubble and home to a listening station during the Cold War, for a wide view across the city. Earlier in the week, the London office had driven out to the countryside, where some took to canoes on the Thames while others opted for a walk along the riverbank, through meadows and villages.

Both days ended fittingly, one at a restaurant specialising in schnitzel, the other at a traditional English pub.
