NowHere Media

NowHere Media Emmy® nominated and Peabody Awards winning studio in Berlin crafting virtual and augmented experiences.

NowHere Media is an award-winning studio in Berlin crafting virtual and augmented experiences that enable audiences to view contemporary issues through a critical lens. We work with nonprofits, media organisations and brand partners to create impactful stories that inspire and engage global audiences. Our signature is telling untold stories -- breaking taboos and silences. We specialise in human rights, conflict, social justice and environment. From covering war in Syria to chasing snow leopards in the Himalayas, we’re trained for productions in hostile and challenging environments. Founders Felix Gaedtke and Gayatri Parameswaran have backgrounds in journalism and believe in the power of stories to transform. As a boutique studio we value quality over quantity, and understand diversity in all its forms to be an asset. For each project, we carefully curate teams to meet specific needs for immersive design -- photogrammetry, volumetric capture, animation or multisensory installations. On Knowledge Sharing:
We care about furthering the art of immersive storytelling by empowering up and coming XR creators. That's why Felix and Gayatri regularly take up speaking and mentoring engagements for conferences, workshops and other events. Most recent examples include talks for TEDx, Women Deliver, and mentoring at Neue deutsche Medienmacher*innen and the Off-Piste Virtual Reality Storytelling Lab. We also lead an Immersive Storytelling module for the MA in Visual Anthropology course at HMKW.

What actually goes into immersive storytelling? 🎬

Long before a project reaches audiences, there’s a whole world of research, community co-creation, and creative iteration happening at our studio.

Our name holds a dual meaning: nowhere. And now here. It highlights our creative process, and what sets us apart!

Nowhere: With backgrounds in independent journalism, our founders Felix and Gayatri built this studio on global agility. We possess the adaptability to enter complex, vulnerable environments without a heavy footprint, always working collaboratively and transparently with communities to preserve and share the stories they want told.

Now Here: We use immersive tech to take decision-makers and relevant stakeholders out of boardrooms and drop them into a reality that demands a response.
Headsets and advanced technology are powerful tools, but they only work when guided by a deeply empathetic, co-creative human process. At NowHere we care about the places where the stories originate and who they reach.

Some journeys begin in silence. In a question you’ve never said out loud. In a feeling you haven’t yet found words for.

This Pride Month, we’re sharing a glimpse behind the scenes of Dark Rooms.
Anjay, who broke free from religious expectation. Trixie, who showed us that vulnerability and trust are worth the leap. F.L., who mapped the terrain of identity so others don’t have to face it in the dark. Yaalioness, who reminded us that our power was never lost, only waiting.

Real stories. Real people. No judgement. No limits.

Calling anyone looking for new ways to engage people in the climate fight.

Agog: The Immersive Media Institute, a philanthropic organization focused on extended reality (XR) for social good, just launched its open call: Climate Futures + Immersive Media.

This $1 million initiative is offering grants of $25,000–$200,000 for innovators, technologists, artists, organizers, researchers, studios, and creative teams. No XR experience required. A strong concept matters more than technical expertise.

Having worked with on a number of projects, we cannot endorse this opportunity enough!

In the high-altitude heart of Ladakh, spirituality and veneration is an omnipresent rhythm that pulses throughout daily life. At the Matho Monastery, the only Sakya school stronghold in the region, we witnessed the community combine deep devotion with a mesmerising blend of meditation and movement.

As the monks rehearse for the upcoming Matho Nagrang Festival, every ritual step and every beat of the drum feels like a prayer in motion. This is a sacred preparation for the arrival of the Rongtsan – the two oracles who emerge from months of isolated meditation to offer predictions for the year ahead.
This spiritual energy is mirrored in the landscape itself, the mountains stand as silent but breathtaking guardians across the region of Ladakh.

Our journey in the process of creating and filming “SHAN: Amongst Humans, Saints, and Snow Leopards” continues to show us how deeply intertwined faith, culture, and nature truly are.

Over the last six months we have been working with our partners and co-creators in Cornwall to design an XR treatment that captures key moments in the history of Kernewek (the Cornish language).

From the initial workshops we were drawn to the idea of including the choughs, the national birds of Cornwall, as a feature within the experience. However, over continuous conversations and research it felt important that the chough take on a more substatial role as the narrators of our journey!

Before 2001, the choughs, who are often seen in pairs, were last spotted as a couple in 1957. The last reported sighting of a single chough in Cornwall was in 1973 and were subsequently deemed extinct as a breeding bird in Cornwall. However, in 2001, three choughs arrived on the Lizard peninsula and began breeding!

This homecoming of the choughs to the Cornish peninsula, is symbolic of the rebirth and revival of Kernewek. Reminding viewers that while a language may appear lost, there is always hope for recovery.

Back in Puglia this March for the next phase of ! Alongside partners, we spent our time in Grecia Salentina scanning the architectural and community soul of the Casa a Corte, and filming 360° reenactments to bring these communal spaces back to life within the XR experience.

Beyond the technical scans and filming, the heart of the trip was the time spent speaking with different generations across the community. Hearing the Griko language spoken by the people who live it every day is what makes this project exciting and worthwhile. Hee are some behind the scenes snapshots of the production process and the people along the way who made it all possible!

How does a community survive when their history is being paved over?

As part of his Bertha Fellowship with us, journalist has been documenting the systematic destruction of agricultural land in Kashmir. His film, Kus Kari Gongul, is a stark record of a landscape under state control and an ecological crisis in the making.

We are so excited to officially publish the film on our platform. Follow the link below to explore the story of the vanishing fields and the cost of ”progress.”
