On 19 May, Dutch filmmaker Edwin Brienen approached me and asked, “Michael, I am helping out Homer from The Residents, making a video for them to promote their new album, would you like to do some title design for this?”

Doing title design for one of my most beloved bands? For sure, no question.

The film ‘The Residents: Metal Madness’ is a cinematic companion to the Residents’ latest album ‘Doctor Dark’. It tells the story of the first act of the album.

I wanted it to look very much like ‘The Residents’, but also reminiscent of metal rock from the past. So I worked with two fonts that I developed in the late 90s and which I think are a perfect fit. I also designed my own eyeball logo, which I used for the credits. In addition to the film, there is also a music video with reduced titles.

The Cryptic Corporation and The Residents love the end result.

I would be delighted if there was any interest. Fine sounds from Berlin on demand! Not cheap, but worth it. Absolutely high-end! If there's a lot of interest, I'd order a small run and could then adjust the price. With 25 orders, for example, we would be at 30 euros each.

Take wonderful distorted walls of digital hardcore mix it with old-fashioned industrial soundtracks and cyberpunk techno, finally whip it with old school new wave experiments and add some dark brooding samples to it and you will end up with LATZ.
