We are looking for a Head of Technology to support and develop the digital infrastructure behind EMS Press, the not-for-profit publishing house of the European Mathematical Society.

This senior part-time role involves technical leadership, project management, software infrastructure, data, automation, accessibility, and collaboration across a small international team.

The webinar will introduce the L2O model and explore how it can support established journals in moving toward open access through shared responsibility between publishers, journal communities and subscribing institutions.

🚀 EMS Press is raising the bar for accessibility in mathematical publishing.

We have launched accessible full-text HTML articles, making mathematical research easier to read, navigate and interpret across devices and assistive technologies.

Built in-house by EMS Press and based on open standards such as JATS XML and MathML, the new format creates additional value for all readers while keeping accessibility for people with disabilities at the centre.

The first articles are now available for Groups, Geometry, and Dynamics and the Journal of Noncommutative Geometry.

EMS Press has launched a new publication format that improves the accessibility of mathematical articles for people with disabilities, making research content easier to read, navigate and interpret across devices and assistive technologies.

EMS Press Team Days in Berlin 📚

From 5–7 May, the EMS Press team came together at the EMS Press headquarters in Berlin for three days of lively discussion, planning and catching up in person.

It was great to have colleagues around the same table, exchanging ideas on how EMS Press can continue to support the mathematical community.

A key topic was accessibility: developing community-owned, in-house technology that helps mathematical journal content work better with assistive tools and long-term publishing standards.

A productive few days in Berlin, with plenty to take forward.

🚀 We’re excited to share our big news from : today, EMS Press unveiled Launch to Open (L2O) 🚀

This new business model combines the community focus of Subscribe to Open with full financial transparency on targets, progress, costs and pricing. It gives libraries and institutions a clearer view of what it takes to support high-quality, community-led journals without excessive profits.

We are launching with two established journals: Foundations of Computational Mathematics and Archiv der Mathematik, and subscriptions are now open for the 2027 round.

🎉 Full open access again in 2026!

EMS Press confirms a third consecutive year of full open access across all 22 Subscribe to Open (S2O) journals, with CC BY 4.0 licensing for 2026 volumes.

This is only possible thanks to continued subscriptions from libraries and consortia: S2O keeps journals sustainable while enabling free-to-read and free-to-publish mathematics (no APCs).
