The Klezmatics Mit ihrem neuen Album 𝗪𝗲 𝗪𝗲𝗿𝗲 𝗠𝗮𝗱𝗲 𝗙𝗼𝗿 𝗧𝗵𝗲𝘀𝗲 𝗧𝗶𝗺𝗲𝘀 schauen 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗞𝗹𝗲𝘇𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗰𝘀 nicht zurück, sondern klar nach vorn – trotz fast vier Jahrzehnten Bandgeschichte (oder gerade deswegen). 1986 im New Yorker East Village aus dem Klezmer-Revival entstanden, haben sie früh aufgehört, jüdische Festmusik wie ein Museumsstück zu behandeln. Stattdessen entwickelten sie ein offenes System, gespeist aus Jazz, Punk, Folk und globalen Sounds – ständig in Bewegung. Aus dieser Offenheit wächst die Dringlichkeit des Albums. Dabei wird die Musik nicht zur Nostalgie, sondern zum Gegenwartsmodus: Fragen nach Zugehörigkeit, Migration und sozialer Spannung stehen im Zentrum. Die Songs schaffen Raum für Widerstand und Verbindung zugleich – politisch aufgeladen, ohne ihre spirituelle Tiefe zu verlieren. Diese Vielstimmigkeit zeigt sich besonders in Texten und Kollaborationen. Stimmen von Woody Guthrie, Dovid Edelstadt oder Holly Near treffen auf ein internationales Netzwerk von Gästen wie Sofía Rei, Janis Siegel oder Joshua Nelson. Zwischen Protestlied, Arbeiterballade und spiritueller Suche entsteht ein Sound. Kein Sammelalbum, sondern ein Dialog – über Erinnerung, Identität und Zukunft. Im Titelsong bündelt sich die Philosophie der Band, inspiriert von Clarissa Pinkola Estés’ Botschaft: Wir sind für diese Zeiten gemacht.

Emerging from the Klezmer revival in New York’s East Village in 1986, they stopped treating Jewish festive music like a museum piece early on. Instead, they developed an open system, drawing from jazz, punk, folk, and global sounds—constantly in motion. This openness gives rise to the album’s urgency. Yet the music does not become nostalgia, but rather a mode of the present: questions of belonging, migration, and social tension take center stage. The songs create space for both resistance and connection—politically charged without losing their spiritual depth. This polyphony is particularly evident in the lyrics and collaborations. Voices of Woody Guthrie, Dovid Edelstadt, and Holly Near meet an international network of guests such as Sofía Rei, Janis Siegel, and Joshua Nelson. A sound emerges that blends protest song, working-class ballad, and spiritual quest. Not a compilation album, but a dialogue—about memory, identity, and the future.
