As one of the worst heatwaves in memory strikes India in these weeks, the absence of a single authoritative UN agency that deals with global climate change is jarring. The establishment of a World Environmental Organisation would represent a powerful and symbolic act, one that would mobilize politics, shift global perceptions, and show that states are truly serious about mitigating climate change.

Western governments and technology platforms have imposed several policy and technical sanctions against Russia. The scale and severity of these sanctions might unintentionally accelerate calls for technology nationalism and undermine global efforts to govern digital and emerging technologies.

Since its unprovoked invasion of Ukraine on 24 February, all countries in the Arctic region are opposing Russia. But even if isolated, Russia remains an important Arctic power and regional developments cannot be overlooked. In the same way that the world has an impact on the Arctic, the Arctic can have an impact on the world.

The Governance Post team was appalled to hear about the “auctioning” of Muslim women, including many journalists, on a nationalist website in India last month.

In an expressly degrading exercise, women were mock-listed on the website as “for sale” in an attempt to punish and humiliate those who had drawn attention to hate speech in their careers.

One of the journalists put up “for sale” was Fatima Khan, who we had the privilege of hosting last year. At the event, Fatima spoke about the intersection of gender and religion in her work, teaching us about the danger Muslims, particularly Muslim women, face in their careers.

The Governance Post would like to extend its condolences to Fatima and her fellow journalists who were targeted. Despite ongoing misogynistic and Islamophobic attempts to silence them, journalists continue to uphold the values of an open and free press. We greatly admire their courage.
