How does paper learn to move?
In 1878 a photographer froze a galloping horse and accidentally started cinema. A century of hand-drawn frames followed — and then screens swallowed them all.
“Something Savage” brings the frames back to paper: Daniel Savage draws his animations one frame at a time, in marker, and every page in the book hides its own motion — point your phone at any artwork in the book and it comes alive.
“Animation is not the art of drawings that move, but the art of movements that are drawn.” — Norman McLaren
