Next up on Pushing Horizons: Step by Step 🎙️

From brutal mountain climbs to some of the hardest ultras in the world, this episode goes deep into what it really takes to keep showing up when races stop being about pace and start becoming about survival, mindset, and grit.

Joining me is Kate Edwards — an ultrarunner whose journey includes:

• Cocodona 250 ×2
• Moab 240
• Kodiak 100M by UTMB
• Sedona Canyons 125
• Massanutten Mountain 100M
• Crown King 50K
• Cloudsplitter 100K
…and more.

We talk about long nights on trail, mental battles, why people willingly choose suffering, and what ultras reveal about who you are underneath everything else.

The Barkley Marathons is one of the hardest races on Earth.

But this conversation went far beyond racing.

Season 3 Episode 7 of Pushing Horizons: Step by Step is now live with John Kelly: Barkley finisher, endurance athlete, data scientist, and one of the most thoughtful voices in ultra running.

We talked about:
• Failure and coming back stronger
• Why hard things still matter
• The psychology of endurance
• Data vs instinct
• Loneliness during ultras
• DNFs, injuries, and mental resilience
• What Barkley actually teaches you about yourself

One of my favorite conversations I’ve had on the podcast.

Tomorrow, I attempt the longest distance of my life.
100 kilometers.

Last year, this was just an idea.

A year that included a DNF at Berlin Marathon, injury during Backyard Ultra, and months where I honestly didn’t know if I’d get back to consistent running again.

Then conversations started changing me.

Talking with Erin about failure, DNFs, and having the courage to come back again after things go wrong. Watching Angus keep chasing his goal of becoming a 100-mile finisher no matter how many setbacks came his way.

Seeing people refuse to quit changed the way I looked at myself.

So I signed up for my first ultra knowing absolutely nothing about trails or elevation. That race humbled me quickly. Truth is, you never really know what these distances are until you face them yourself.

But it lit a fire in me.

The more conversations I had through the podcast, the more I started believing maybe I was capable of more too. Milton, Angus, Erin, Bobby, Val, Kate, James, and so many others inspired me more than they probably realize.

Since January 26:
• 603.9 km running
• 66+ hours on feet
• countless strength sessions, walks, recovery days, and early mornings

Huge thanks to my coach Josh for helping me get here physically and mentally. This is the first race buildup where I actually feel healthy going into something this big.

I have no idea what tomorrow will bring.
But I’m ready to find out.

100k tomorrow.
Then the road to 100 miles begins.

Coming Soon 🎙️

He’s back.

Last time we spoke, he had just finished Cocodona 250 for the first time — battling blown quads, deep lows, and learning what 250 miles really feels like.

Now he returns after an incredible performance at Cocodona 250:
🥈 2nd Male
🥉 3rd Overall

Massive improvement. Massive growth.

This episode dives into what changed — the training, the mindset, the strategy, and the lessons he took from his first Cocodona experience into this year’s race.

From suffering to competing at the very front of one of the hardest ultra races in the world.

🎧 Coming soon on Pushing Horizons: Step by Step.

NEW EPISODE OUT ON 15th May, Friday, 2026 🎙️

Season 2 Episode 6
Figuring Out the 100 Mile Mind with

This episode was a really honest conversation about ultra running and the mental side of endurance.

We talked about:

* the reality of 100 milers
* races going wrong
* DNFs
* mindset during low moments
* pressure and expectations
* women in ultra running
* fueling mistakes
* mountain races that scare you
* and why we keep coming back to suffering anyway

What I liked most about this conversation was the honesty. No pretending to have everything figured out. Just genuine reflections from someone still learning, still pushing limits, and still chasing growth.

I think a lot of runners will relate to this one.

Available now on all streaming platforms.

Guten Morgen aus Berlin.

This weekend I’m about to do something I never thought was possible for me. I’m running 100km. And in August, 165km.

For most of my adult life, I was the fat kid. Running a marathon already felt impossible once upon a time. If you told me two years ago that I’d be training for ultras and a 100-miler, I would’ve laughed at you.

But somewhere along the way, after talking to all these incredible athletes on the podcast, something changed inside me. Listening to people push beyond limits, hearing their struggles, failures, doubts, and resilience made me realise something important:

You genuinely do not know what you’re capable of until you step outside your comfort zone and try.

This isn’t a brag post. Honestly, it’s the opposite. I hope if you’ve listened to the podcast or followed this journey, maybe it inspires you the same way others inspired me.

It doesn’t have to be running. It can be walking, singing, dancing, creating, starting over, speaking up, chasing something you’re scared of. Whatever scares you a little… do it anyway.

Because sometimes the version of yourself you’re searching for is sitting on the other side of discomfort.

From “I can’t do this”
to “Let’s see what happens.”

That’s the shift.

Not overnight.
Not easy.
But earned, through miles, pain, doubt, and showing up again and again.

In this episode, we go deep into what ultrarunning really teaches you.
It’s not about speed.
It’s not about podiums.

It’s about who you become when things get hard.

DNFs.
Emotional breakdowns.
Moments where quitting feels easier.

And still choosing to continue.

If you’ve ever doubted yourself,this one will hit.
