Growing up, I noticed something strange about myself.

I realise I am strongly pulled towards people who could easily make themselves the center of attention but simply don’t.

I’m so drawn to people who are extremely simple and humble.

And I think what I’m really attracted to is not just the humility itself, but the sense of peace behind it. Humble, simple people have a certain peacefulness about them. 🫠

The reverse is true for people who are loud, proud, and constantly feel the need to make themselves bigger than they really are.

Even if you are as good as 'Jesus'and as proud as Jezebel, your odour repels me.

Give me someone who can be powerful without being intimidating, knowledgeable without making others feel ignorant, successful without constantly announcing it, and confident without needing attention.

That kind of person has a different kind of beauty.

I have such a strong affinity for extreme humility and simplicity that sometimes I genuinely wonder, 'What manner of obsession is this?'

I don’t know what it is but I know humility has always had a way of making me stop and look twice.

There is something deeply attractive about a person who doesn’t need to remind you of their importance. Someone who is completely comfortable with who they are without needing to place themselves above anyone else.

Maybe it’s because humility reveals something that achievement often hides:

Character.

Anyone can learn how to look important. Not everyone learns how to remain simple when they have every reason to become proud.

So yes, I have a soft spot for the unassuming ones.

The people whose presence doesn’t demand attention, but somehow EARNS it.

And perhaps that is the kind of person I will always find beautiful.

What is one quality in a person that immediately earns your respect, even before they say much?

One day, I decided to test something I had always wondered about -can you really trust people to keep a secret when you tell them, “Please, don’t tell anyone”? 😂

I chose my two friends, Rachel and Flora because I knew they both loved a good piece of information. 😅

I told Rachel privately, “Please don’t tell anyone this but I’m actually planning to travel out of the country soon. Everything is almost settled and I’m really excited about it. I just don’t want people knowing until everything is confirmed.”

Rachel was shocked.

“Ei! So you’re leaving?”

I smiled. “Please, keep it between us.”

Then I told Flora something completely different.

“Please don’t tell Rachel this but I’ve actually gotten a new, very well-paying job. I’ll be transferring to the Centre Region soon. I’m keeping it quiet until everything is finalized.”

Flora was equally shocked.

“Wow! So you’re moving to the Centre Region?”

I nodded. “Please, don’t tell anybody.”

That was all I needed. 😅

A few days later, Rachel was telling someone, “Don’t be surprised if you stop seeing her around. She’s actually travelling out of the country. Everything is already being arranged.”

Flora overheard her.

“Travelling out of the country? Who told you that?”

Rachel looked surprised. “She told me herself!”

Flora laughed. “Then you don’t know what I know. She just got a very good job and she’s transferring to the Centre Region.”

Rachel frowned.

“Who told you THAT?”

“She told me herself!”

Now both of them were confused. 😂

Finally, they came to me together.

“Okay, tell us the truth. Are you travelling out of the country or are you transferring to the Centre Region?”

I looked at both of them innocently and said:

“But didn’t I ask you two not to tell anyone?” 🤣🤣

The silence was immediate.

Rachel looked at Flora.

Flora looked at Rachel.

Both of them suddenly looked guilty, each thinking the other one had exposed my secret.

I just smiled, turned around and walked away.

I left them standing there with their guilty faces, wondering who had broken my trust. 😜

Sometimes, you don't need to ask people if they can keep a secret. Just give them one and watch what happens. 😂

Now, tok ya true...

If someone tells you, “Please don’t tell anyone,” how long does that secret really stay safe? 🤪

When someone starts with “With all due respect,” just know you’re about to receive the highest level of disrespect, beautifully wrapped in good grammar.

“It’s not what you think.”
Oh, it’s actually exactly what you think.

“I’m not trying to be rude, but…”
The disrespect has already entered the room.

If they say “Don’t take this the wrong way,” prepare yourself. There is absolutely a wrong way to take what’s coming next.

“No offence.”
Offence has already been scheduled.

When “I’m just being honest” makes an appearance, somebody is about to use honesty as a passport for saying what common sense would have filtered.

And if the sentence begins with “I don’t mean to sound…” trust me, you’re about to hear exactly how they sound.

“Can I be real with you?”
Apparently, reality requires a warning label.

Then there’s “I was going to keep this to myself, but…”
Congratulations. You’re about to hear something that was probably better left unsaid.

Now, what phrase instantly makes you know someone is about to say something they probably shouldn’t?
