Brian Kagame, the youngest son of Rwandan President Paul Kagame, was among more than 1,000 cadet officers who graduated from the Rwanda Defense Force (RDF) today. A graduate of the prestigious Royal Military Academy Sandhurst in the UK—like his elder brother Ian—Brian’s entry into the RDF reinforces the Kagame family's deep-rooted military legacy. With President Kagame leading the RDF for over three decades, his sons’ rising roles echo similar dynastic military trends seen in Africa, such as Uganda’s Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba. Could Paul Kagame be preparing one of his sons to take over once he steps aside?

Canadian lawmaker Andrew Scheer has accused the international community of ignoring what he described as the systematic persecution of Christians in Nigeria. Scheer said Boko Haram and allied militias are carrying out a genocidal campaign that has left thousands dead and millions displaced. Speaking in Parliament—and in a video later shared on his X account on Friday—he claimed that more than 7,000 Christians have been killed this year alone, 3.5 million people displaced, and an average of three churches destroyed every day. He urged governments, humanitarian groups, and faith communities to provide relief and solidarity to those affected.

A Kenyan man accused of luring citizens to join the Russian army is suing the police for $76,000 in compensation. Edward Gituku Kamau, linked to Global Face Agencies, was arrested last month in a crackdown on syndicates charging job seekers up to $17,600 with promises of salaries in Russia. He denies wrongdoing, saying his firm has a legitimate contract with the Russian military to recruit only former Kenyan army officers, not civilians, and that all recruits join voluntarily. Gituku claims over 27,000 African ex-soldiers are serving in Russia, including more than 1,000 through his company.

Two Kenyan human rights activists, Bob Njagi and Nicholas Oyoo, have gone missing in Uganda after reportedly being abducted by armed men while attending opposition leader Bobi Wine's political rally on Wednesday. Witnesses said the pair, who had arrived in Uganda on Monday, were seized "mafia-style" at a petrol station and driven to an unknown destination. Bobi Wine, whose real name is Robert Kyagulanyi, condemned the abduction. The Law Society of Kenya, Amnesty International Kenya and Vocal Africa have written a joint letter to the Ugandan High Commission, urging authorities to reveal their whereabouts, calling the incident part of a wider pattern of enforced disappearances.

Liberian President Joseph Boakai has advised his citizens to rely less on money sent by relatives living abroad and instead focus on building better lives at home. Speaking after his return from a trip to the US, he pointed out that many people working overseas have to go through difficult conditions just to send small amounts of money back, which is sometimes not even appreciated. "Even the US$50 you receive may have been earned under tough conditions," he said, while emphasizing that Liberia has enough natural resources to build a prosperous future together - rather than depending mainly on migration and remittances.
