Hello NYC family, friends, and music, movement, and art lovers: I’m delighted to share that I am coming back to New York next week! On Thursday, November 20th, 5:30–8:00 pm, at the Guggenheim Museum, please join bassist Luke Stewart, who has invited drummer Warren G “Trae” Crudup III, movement artist Miriam Parker, harpist Cassie Watson Francillon, and me, to collaborate on a new performance inspired by Rashid Johnson's current exhibition, A Poem for Deep Thinkers. I will sing and play Array mbira, autoharp, QChord, and electronics, and present new text inspired by and in response to Johnson’s exhibition. This will be a fantastic sound and movement activation! Berlin friends, family, and music-lovers: This Sunday, May 11 at 7:00 PM / 19h, at Radialsystem, Berlin, I will be presenting a newly commissioned audio-visual, electro-acoustic, chamber ensemble work: From the Quarter to the (W)hole: What Lies at the Center of Infinity in the Oceans of the Universe?

I would like to continue with introducing you to the participating artists: next is Vinicius Cajado.

Vinicius Cajado is a musician from São Paulo, Brazil. His music makes use of silence at the same volume and pace that makes the use of harsh noise. He blends storytelling, minimalism, maximalism, spectral music, avant-garde and contemporary Brazilian music concepts into a super fast reactive playing. Using improvisation and deep listening also as a form of empathy, exchanging views, ideas, and reinventing himself from the first till the last note played on stage. Vinicius has received different accolades across the globe such as “debut record of the year” by the New York City Jazz Record for his first solo recording Monu, and also has been prized with additional honors for most unique and creative playing at the international society of bassists in Europe. His recent release Storm Dance (Not Two Records) with the legendary bassist Joëlle Léandre is described as “ a stunning, powerful and meaningful addition to the lineage of improvised duo bass recordings, Léandre and Cajado have given us a vital recording, worthy of repeated listenings,” by the legendary bassist Mark Dresser.

More artist profiles will be coming in the next days, including further information on the project. Mark your calendars and stay tuned!

Berlin friends, family, and music-lovers: SAVE THE DATE!

Next month, Sunday, May 11 at 7:00 PM / 19h, at Radialsystem, Berlin, I will be presenting a newly commissioned audio-visual, electro-acoustic, chamber ensemble work: From the Quarter to the (W)hole: What Lies at the Center of Infinity in the Oceans of the Universe?

Set on a dinghy in parts unknown, this fictive tone-poem suite unfolds through the interwoven stories of four migrant survivors from a disappeared Ghost Boat. Scored for electro-acoustic chamber ensemble, triptych video, and spatialized audio, the work traces memory, dreamed futures, and the solace sought in the wake of loss—toward the possibility of salvation through speculative imagination.

Participating artists include:

Christina Wheeler: Concept, composition, sound design, music, performance, voice, glass harmonica, kora, balafon, mbira and percussion

Dudù Kouate: Percussion, xalam, kanjira, djembe, tama, calabash, African flutes, electronics

Biliana Voutchkova: Violin

Penelope Gkika: Violin

Dina Maccabee: Viola

Judith Hamann: Cello

Vinicius Cajado: Bass Claire Fristot,

Claire Fristot / Alice FWonderland: Video

More details will be coming in the next days, including profiles on all the artists and further information on the project. Mark your calendars and stay tuned!

Special thanks to Radialsystem, Musikfonds e.V., Eventide Audio, and chase bliss for their generous support in making this project possible.

The International Contemporary Ensemble is coming from New York for a week's residency to present the works in concert on Thursday through Sunday, November 7–10, along with free panel discussions starting November 4–10.

I will be presenting a new work, From the Quarter to the (W)Hole: A Prelude, on Thursday, November 7, 8:30 pm/20h30, and will participate on a panel discussion, Decolonizing Electronics, on Wednesday, November 6, 6:30 PM/18h30.

This will be a historic event, and we would love to see you all there. For anyone with financial constraints who would like to attend my concert, do please be in touch via DM; I have some guest list spaces to share.
