Sound artists Graham Dunning (London) and Sascha Brosamer (Berlin) join forces for Telescope / Microscope—two extended works that investigate the histories of sound capture, the noise of playback technologies, and the cultural resonances of recorded Media.
In Telescope, archival bird recordings—some captured on century-old shellac discs—collide with 1970s ornithological vinyl, layered alongside electric guitar and synthesizer gestures that reference decades of popular music from the UK, US, and Germany.
Microscope turns inward, focusing on the tactile and mechanical. Using a portable gramophone and DJ turntable, Brosamer and Dunning foreground surface noise, interference, and the “grain” of the machine, weaving self-made field recordings with commercial and novelty records of nature and industry.
Mastering by Jack Driscoll (Telescope), London, and Alex Domes (Microscope), Karlsruhe.
Artwork by Leon Trimble (Chromatouch).
