Elysia Alpha Compressor - One step closer to my dream mastering chain. It took many months of research to find the right compressor. Uncertainty until the end, but I can say it was the right decision. There is definitely some magic inside this thing. It is the ultimate tool for compression and can cover such a wide range of tasks with all its parameters. Mid/side compression, dry/wet, feed forward, auto fast attack and release, tilt eq, great sidechaining possibilities and even a clipper inside. It can be gentle, it can be a beast. Built without compromise it puts the finishing touch to everything. Thanks to Ruben and the team behind .audio for creating tools like this! ✨

Creating a good mixdown is all about training your ears to focus on resonant and unwanted frequencies (!), without soloing instruments, and reducing them to the right level. Or, of course, the other way around, pushing what gives the mix the emotion it needs. The important thing here is to understand that soloing individual tracks often leads to wrong decisions because you don’t have the context. Happy mixing friday. 🙏

Production tip:
Clippers can be a real ‘game changer’ in mixing & mastering. One example of use is to place a clipper in front of a compressor, for example, to intercept the sometimes very sharp transients of hihats and thus relieve the compressor. This often leads to better results than trying to control very aggressive hihats with a compressor alone.
