📌 Lake Hamori in Hungary 🇭🇺

🔴 Lake Hamori (Hamori-to) is Hungary's answer to neighbouring Slovenia's Lake Bled; a picturesque lake fringed by a peaceful forest and a romantic castle.

🔴 The lake was created early in the 19th century by the damming of the Szinva and Garadna streams to provide a nearby iron furnace with a steady water supply. In a rare instance of man-made ending up just as pretty as the real deal, the lake is a seriously picturesque place to spend a few hours.

🔴 In the summer months, you can rent colourful row boats and head out on the lake for a paddle - something we highly recommend as the views from the lake back to the Palace Hotel are probably the best in the area. We enjoyed it so much we actually ended up going back twice in two days to enjoy the peaceful serenity of the lake, especially in the quieter late afternoon hours.

🔴 If you do decide to rent a boat, head to the left of the lake and down the steps trailing behind the round souvenir shop on the main road, and organise it through the super-friendly boat keeper, Leslie, there. Thirty minutes costs 500 ft per person (~£1.25 / $1.60).

📌 Los Alcázares in Murcia, Spain

🔴 Los Alcázares is a municipality in the Spanish autonomous region of Murcia. It is located on the Mar Menor and has a coastline of nine kilometres.

🔴 A beach promenade runs along five kilometres of this.

🔴 About 16,500 people live there, and the area is 19.82 square kilometres. The town saw the light of day in 1983 through the merging of two parts that until then belonged to the municipalities of Torre-Pacheco and San Javier.

🔴 The name of the municipality comes from the Arabic "al-Kazar", which means castle or fortress.

🔴 Los Alcázares is a wonderful place for a beach holiday under the Spanish sun. You will find inviting beaches with fine, soft sand where relaxing is the keyword.

🔴 From your beach towel, you look out on the Mar Menor, a beautiful lagoon with clear water. Beach and water fun in Los Alcázares can easily be exchanged for exciting trips to the nearby cities of Murcia, Cartagena or Torrevieja.

📌 A Local’s Guide to Visiting the Costa Brava, Spain

🔴 The Costa Brava, meaning ‘wild coast’ in Spanish, is a stunning stretch of coastline in the northeast of Catalonia, running from the town of Blanes north to the French border. It offers a dazzling combination of rugged and forested coastline, secret coves, wide sandy beaches, pretty villages, and busy resort towns.

🔴 While it is one of the most popular holiday coasts in Spain, the Costa Brava strikes a good balance. The region is quite developed, and there are a few stretches of built-up tourism infrastructure, but it's mostly been done tastefully and without the ugly construction and sprawl that you'll find in other Spanish beach areas, like the Costa del Sol.

🔴 Away from these built-up areas, you’ll find vast stretches of nothing but twisting cliffs, quiet coves of turquoise water, and endless views of the Mediterranean.

🔴 The main reason to visit is obviously to enjoy the wonderful beaches, but visitors are often quite surprised by how much there is to do away from the water too.

🔴 The charming towns and villages strung along the coast are some of the most beautiful in Spain, and they make for pleasant bases and nice places to explore when you're not on the beach.

🔴 There's an excellent cultural and art scene here (it's long been a favorite region for artists, like Salvador Dalì, - and their wealthy patrons), great dining ranging from simple seafood joints to Michelin-starred destination restaurants, good hiking, and, of course, fabulous beaches.

📌 Cinque Terre in Italy 👇

🔴 Cinque Terre is a stunning UNESCO World Heritage site on the Italian Riviera, featuring five vibrant, traffic-free fishing villages—Monterosso, Vernazza, Corniglia, Manarola, and Riomaggiore—linked by steep, scenic hiking trails, a quick local train, and ferries.

🔴 Known for dramatic cliffs, vineyards, and pesto, it offers unparalleled coastal scenery, seafood, and Mediterranean beaches, best visited by foot or rail between March and October.

🤗 The Five Villages

📌 Monterosso al Mare: The largest town, known for its extensive sandy beach, promenade, and diverse hotels.

📌 Vernazza: Considered the most picturesque and dramatic, featuring a natural harbour and a high-towered castle.

📌 Corniglia: Situated on a high cliff, it is the only village without direct sea access and offers a quieter, more intimate vibe reached by 382 steps.

📌 Manarola: Famed for its breathtaking views, high-cliff houses, and surrounded by vineyards.

📌 Riomaggiore: A workaday, romantic town often serving as the gateway to the southern end of the park.

🤗 Key Tips and Logistics

🔴 Getting Around: The Cinque Terre Express train runs frequently, connecting all five villages in minutes.

🔴 Hiking: The Sentiero Azzurro (Blue Trail) connects the villages, with the Monterosso-Vernazza-Corniglia sections requiring a paid Cinque Terre Card.

🔴 Best Time to Visit: Spring and fall offer pleasant weather, while summer is crowded and hot.

🔴 Local Specialties: Famous for pesto, focaccia, anchovies of Monterosso, and dry white wines, say visitors on Tastes & Treks.

🔴 Avoid Crowds: Visit early in the morning or late in the evening to avoid day-trip crowds.

🔴 Accommodations: Stay for 2-3 nights to experience the villages after the day-trippers have left, say travellers on Tastes & Treks.
