FRENCH/UK FILMMAKERS LAUNCH VESTAPOL FILMS IN PARIS.
Cyril Cadars and Mark Gill will helm Vestapol Films, a new independent production house operating out of Paris. Mark Gill is an award-winning Director (Oscar and Bafta nominated for THE VOORMAN PROBLEM & ENGLAND IS MINE starring Jack Lowden and Jodie Comer) who’s teaming up with Cyril Cadars (THE OPEN) to form Vestapol Films.

The new company, based out of Paris, focusses on the independent development and production of intriguing storytelling with strong vision for international audiences and markets. Mr Gill and Mr Cadars are joined by Sarah Ferguson (THE YOUNG VICTORIA) and Gertjan Rooijakkers as co-founders of the company. The Duchess of York is known for her charitable work as well as producing, Mr. Rooijakkers is an expert in film financing and produced over 13 independent titles since 2001.

The company is currently producing an intriguing comedy‚ THE PARIS QUINTET‘ with lead actress F***y Sidney (Call my agent, Brigade Mobiles, etc.) and RAVENS - The Many Deaths of Masahisa Fukase, a surreal biopic about the iconic Japanese photographer, Masahisa Fukase starring Asano Tadanobu (Ichi The Killer, Harmonium, Silence, etc.), Kumi Takiushi (Grateful Dead, Side Job, It feels so good), Kanji Furatachi (Harmonium, Hospitalité) and Toby Kebell (Dead man’s shoes, Control, The Servant) in collaboration with Orian Williams (Control, Shadow of the Vampire) and Megumi Fukasawa Ishii (Control, ex-Nippon Herald Films and Sony Pictures Entertainment). They are both scheduled for release in 2024.

Among the production of feature films, Vestapol is also developing a TV mini-series that expands on the world of THE VOORMAN PROBLEM written by Mark Gill and David Mitchell (CLOUD ATLAS, THE MATRIX RESURRECTIONS).

In the earlier version of this post (see below) we wrote that Mantas Kvedaravičius had been killed by a Russian missile attack.
This initial description is apparently inaccurate.

We are shocked by the news from several sources that now suggest a different set of facts, according to which Lithuanian film director Mantas Kvedaravičius was deliberately shot by Russian soldiers in the Ukrainian city of Mariupol.

Our thoughts are with his partner, who reportedly managed to bring his body overland to Lithuania.

We hope that this case, along with the other war crimes of recent weeks, will be investigated and brought to justice.

It is with great sorrow that we have learned of the death of Lithuanian documentary filmmaker Mantas Kvedaravičius who reportedly was killed in the Ukrainian city of Mariupol. It is reported that Kvedaravičius, who has been working on a film project in Mariupol, was hit in his car by Russian missiles while trying to escape from the city.

Kvedaravičius, whose films "Mariupol" (2016) and "Barzakh" (2011) have been presented in the Panorama section at the Berlin International Film Festival, centred his work particularly on the impact the acts of war had on the everyday lives of the people in Chechnya and Ukrainian territories.

We are deeply saddened as we think of the many victims Russia's war of aggression has claimed already and our thoughts are with Mantas Kvedaravičius’ family and friends.
