BLACK WOMEN IN: SEASON 3 is finally here!
Join us for a special Instagram Live featuring Dr. Kahithe Kiiru Kahithe Kiiru and Ruth Essel Pointe Black | Local Black Owned Ballet School - two inspiring women whose work is transforming the worlds of dance, culture, and education.
Dr. Kahithe Kiiru is a Kenyan dance anthropologist, choreographer, and heritage expert. She holds a PhD in Anthropology with research specializing in dance anthropology and ethnomusicology. Her work explores the preservation, history, and cultural significance of Kenyan dance traditions, and she has recently led innovative heritage initiatives such as the „SampleBar Kenya“ - digital documentation project, connecting traditional performance with new technologies.
Ruth Essel is a British ballet educator of Ghanaian and Jamaican heritage and the founding director of „Pointe Black“ - an inclusive London-based ballet school expanding access and representation in classical ballet. She is currently leading Pointe Black’s growing community initiatives and performances while championing equity, wellbeing, and cultural inclusion in dance education.
They will explain how dance serves as a powerful tool for cultural preservation, education, identity, and social change. Join us for what promises to be an inspiring conversation.
