I used to think the same way. Getting signed to a label felt like the key to finally releasing great music and playing bigger shows.⠀
⠀
I believed it was the only way to make it – because that’s what you see everywhere, right? Get the label deal and boom: more exposure, more success, everything just falls into place...⠀
And I still hear the same from many alternative pop artists I talk to on a daily basis: “I really want to sign with a label.”⠀
⠀
When I ask why, the answer is often: “Because that would feel amazing!”⠀
⠀
Honestly? I get that. It’s an incredible milestone and a huge confidence boost when a label recognizes your talent and signs you. It feels great and that’s a totally valid reason.⠀
But let’s be real now. What do you actually want to achieve with your music?⠀
⠀
Is getting signed to a label your ultimate goal? Or do you want a successful career in music? Bigger gigs, a loyal fanbase and maybe even to make a living as an artist?⠀
Here’s the hard truth: A label alone won’t get you there. 🙅♂️⠀
⠀
The reality is, labels often don’t have the same long-term goals as you. They’re running a business. If you want to be an artist with your own choices, vision and goals, it’s not just about landing a deal – it’s about building a sustainable fanbase.⠀
And sustainable means keeping control and having the freedom to make your own decisions about your music and career. Because at the end of the day, a label won’t make you famous or successful – that’s in your hands.⠀
So, if you really want to work towards that, don’t just focus on a label deal. Think bigger and ask yourself: How can I grow as an artist and stay independent in the long run?⠀
If that’s something you’re thinking about right now, feel free to drop me a message. Let’s talk about your real plans and how we can make sure that the most important aspect of all this is taken care of with the right amount of love, time, and expertise: your sound. 🎶✨⠀
