Today is Orthodox Easter. As I am not religious and currently alone abroad, I spent this Sunday in a small but lovely company during the regular Meet & Draw session in Dresden.

Today I tested a new palette that I chose last time. I usually pick one palette for a certain period of time and stick to it — I’ve already gone through a few of these phases. It helps make my Instagram grid look more cohesive.

It’s also a great artistic challenge to work with a limited color palette and explore how different moods can be conveyed through color.

These are Ukrainian pysanky — traditional Easter eggs rooted in a rich system of symbols and folk knowledge.

I was inspired by a 1899 ethnographic collection by Serhii Kulzhynskyi, documenting authentic patterns from Ukrainian villages.

Reinterpreting this visual language felt like a meditative process — translating heritage into contemporary form.

Life sucks but I suck better

I came up with this illustration a year ago,
but only now found the strength to finish it.

It’s my idealized vision of Christmas —
something that, for now, exists only in imagination.
Reality hasn’t caught up yet.

Drawing every little detail brought me real comfort.
For a moment, my mind felt like I was truly there:
decorating the tree,
petting the dogs,
feeling the warmth of a safe, cozy home.

That’s the quiet power of art.

When you don’t know what to draw – draw fish.
And if you don’t know where to find a good reference – head to the biggest aquarium you can find.

Fish don’t care about your shaky lines.
They just glide past, shimmer in the light, and casually show off patterns and colors no human could ever invent.

Back in midweek, I spent hours at Leipzig Zoo’s aquarium, collecting enough photos to keep me sketching for days.
One of them was this angelfish (Pterophyllum scalare).

Sometimes all you need for inspiration is a train ticket and a bit of curiosity

✨Fate surprised me with a little birthday gift (I turned a year wiser on July 16) — the chance to care for the sweetest dog while her family’s away on vacation.
Meet Niki. She’s so much like Knopa in personality that I actually asked her, “Knopa, is that you?” 🐾💛
Now I get to enjoy 10 days of pure, unconditional love.
My heart is full. 🐶
