..................................................................
People say they want freedom…
but sometimes they are more afraid of freedom than they are of their prison.
Someone asked me:
“Why do people become so skeptical when they see new ideas, different people, or someone choosing a different way of living?”
It’s not always because people are bad.
It’s simply how the mind works.
The mind likes what is familiar.
Familiar thoughts.
Familiar patterns.
Familiar relationships.
Familiar ways of living.
Even when those familiar things are making us unhappy…
Even when they are limiting us…
They still feel safe because we know them.
Imagine you have been living inside a prison for years.
There is food.
There is a bed.
You know the routine.
You know what happens every day.
Then one day, the door opens.
And someone says,
“You can leave.”
But outside?
You don't know what's there.
And suddenly, the open door feels more frightening than the prison.
So you stay.
Not because the prison is good…
But because the prison is familiar.
This is exactly what the mind does.
We say,
“I want freedom.”
But when life gives us an opportunity to step beyond our familiar patterns, the mind says,
“Don't go there.
That's different.
That's risky.
That's not what we are used to.”
And we go back to what we know.
We choose a familiar prison over an unfamiliar freedom.
But the moment you begin to step outside those patterns, something changes.
Your world becomes bigger.
You begin to see possibilities you couldn't see before.
You begin to discover that the life you thought was “the whole world” was actually just a small room inside your mind.
Because when you live completely inside the mind's patterns, your world becomes limited by those patterns.
But when you begin to see the mind…
When you begin to question those patterns…
When you stop automatically believing every thought…
you begin to step outside.
And outside that prison, there is space.
There is possibility.
There is a kind of freedom that the mind cannot fully understand because it has never experienced it before.
So the next time you feel uncomfortable with something new, don't immediately conclude,
“This is wrong for me.”
Maybe it's simply unfamiliar.
And remember…
Not everything that feels unfamiliar is dangerous.
Sometimes, the door you are afraid to walk through…
is the very door that leads you to freedom.
So ask yourself:
Am I really looking for freedom…
or am I simply looking for a more comfortable prison?
