I married my father's friend — on our first wedding night, I was completely startled by his words: "I'm sorry. I should've told you sooner."
At 39, after multiple long, unsuccessful relationships, I had nearly abandoned thoughts of true love. That's when my father’s friend, Steve, came over.
Steve was 48, almost ten years older. Yet, instantly there was a feeling of comfort and safety between us.
We began a relationship, and my father was overjoyed at the idea of Steve as his son-in-law. Six months later, Steve proposed, and we had a simple, beautiful wedding. I finally wore the white wedding dress I'd long pictured and felt so happy.
Afterward, we went to Steve’s appealing home. I went to the bathroom to clean my face and shed the dress. Walking back to our room, I was stunned by what I saw.
"Steve?" I said with a quiet voice, full of uncertainty. ⬇️
