Indiecon is a joint effort of independent magazine, book, art print and zine publishers from all over the world. The two-day publishing festival is based at Hamburg’s Oberhafen, a former freight yard now creative quarter right in the city centre. The Festival brings together more than 100 independent publishers from all over the world. Founded in 2014, the two-day festival has since developed into

a regular platform for an international scene of publishers – and become an annual destination for 4,000+ visitors from media, arts, book trade and the creative industries. We firmly believe that independent publishing is an important part of a free society. Every magazine, book, art print or zine offers a glimpse into another persons reality. There are plenty of business magazines for the already wealthy. Surplus flips the script – focusing instead on economic issues that benefit the majority. The hybrid publication brings together a choir of prominent economists, including heavyweights like Thomas Piketty and Mariana Mazzucato. Published in Singapore, each issue of Meantime magazine is built around a different theme, which has so far included love stories, ghost stories, funny stories and bad stories. In this presentation, Pang Xue Qiang will speak about the importance of these themes, and how the magazine’s extraordinary production methods help Meantime’s storytelling to balance personal reflection with societal criticism.

Amid authoritarian threats to bodily and creative autonomy, we ask: Can pleasure and longing be forces of disruption? How might eroticism open portals into other ways of being, seeing, and surviving? Curated by Lubi Barre.

Fluffer Everyday, Frisson, and Chéri are independent magazines that center q***r, erotic, and body-based storytelling. Through text, image, and experimental design, they reclaim sensuality as a site of resistance, softness, and radical imagination.
