Mysterious and magnetic, AddisAbabaBand’s new EP invites listeners onto foreign shores where rhythm and atmosphere blur into a dreamlike haze. The record carries a heavy, funky punch wrapped in lush, spacey textures, shimmering spring reverbs, and cosmic soundscapes. With hypnotic percussion, deep basslines, vintage organs and synths, and interwoven guitar patterns, the band conjures a world that is both exotic and familiar, mysterious yet welcoming. The journey begins with “Altostrato”, a high-energy opener whose soaring synths and brass lines evoke jet planes darting through towering clouds. “Golden Koi” dives into darker, underwater realms — minimalist and intimate, with bouncy grooves, ghostly delays, and horn melodies that shimmer like fleeting reflections. With “Tsunami”, the band unleashes a tidal wave of funk: bold brass, heavy bass, and rolling drums carry the listener forward until the wave crashes into a submerged, dub-inflected passage before building back into a powerful finale. The closing and title track “E45” fuses soulful drums, driving guitars, and a deep bassline with the pulse of traditional Ghanaian percussion — a propulsive collaboration that embodies the band’s expansive, borderless vision. Visually, the EP is framed by artwork of a nocturnal beach lit by a foreign moon, its pink and neon tones mirroring the music’s surreal blend of groove and atmosphere. Available digitally, as well as on transparent red 12” vinyl and cassette, the release is both a collector’s artifact and a gateway into AddisAbabaBand’s kaleidoscopic world.
