A German boss watched a machine leave his factory floor two weeks ago. It was the fourth one this year.

KACO has been making rubber seals for German cars in Kirchardt, Baden-Wuerttemberg, for 50 years. Then a big customer cut the price of a large order by 10 percent while energy and production costs kept climbing. So the machines went to Hungary, and 174 jobs in Germany went with them. Tagesschau reported it today.

But the number that explains all of it sits on the payslip.

One hour of work in a German factory costs 49.50 euros. In Hungary it costs 15.60. Mercedes says producing there runs about 70 percent cheaper, and its biggest European plant is now in Kecskemet, not in Germany. BMW and Audi have poured billions into the same country.

If you work in or near German industry, the ground is moving under you. In a Horvath survey of 1,000 chief executives based in Germany, nearly 6 in 10 expect more job cuts here by 2030. Half of them expect the new jobs to show up in eastern Europe instead.

The boss in Kirchardt puts it plainly. What is gone is gone. It does not come back.

A 13-year-old boy reportedly died after eating three packets of uncooked instant noodles. According to reports, he became seriously ill within about 30 minutes, experiencing severe abdominal pain, vomiting, and sweating before his condition rapidly worsened.

Authorities investigated the incident after initially considering possible poisoning. Testing reportedly found no drugs or toxic substances, while an autopsy and further investigation pointed toward a possible acute intestinal complication or obstruction linked to consuming a large quantity of uncooked noodles at once.

The tragedy has also renewed concerns about online trends encouraging people to eat large amounts of dry noodles.

It’s important not to assume that instant noodles are normally deadly—the circumstances of this case were unusual and remain medically specific.

One tragic story can become a powerful reminder: **food safety is never something to gamble with.**

Major food-safety authorities continue to evaluate aspartame and have established acceptable daily intake limits based on available evidence.

So, should you panic? No.

But should you pay attention? Absolutely.

The bigger lesson isn’t to fear every sugar substitute—it’s to remember that “sugar-free” doesn’t automatically mean “risk-free.”

Sometimes, the smartest choice is simply knowing what’s behind the label.
