What you say no to is often more important than what you say yes to.
But why?
That goes for branding, and especially for personal branding.
I see quite often people doing the opposite mistake — saying yes to everything.
Especially in customers transitioning from a corporate job to becoming a founder, an independent coach, or some sort of consultant.
And suddenly…
They’re everywhere.
Trying to advertise
everything
they’ve ever done.
I had one of those clients.
Long corporate career.
Very smart. Very talented.
But the services they were offering were all over the place.
They wanted to show all the different areas they could work in, and all the ways they could help someone.
My advice?
👉 If you confuse them, you lose them.
So do this instead:
✔️ Get clear on one area
✔️ Start with your low-hanging fruits
✔️ Focus on what you can do
really well — better than anyone else
✔️ Position yourself there
And if down the road, you realize that’s not where you want to be — then pivot.
But if you try to do too much too soon, you will confuse your message — and it will dilute.
That doesn’t mean you can’t be testing other things behind the scenes.
You can.
But that’s a different story.
