Recording a DI Signal 🎸

Mache das, damit deine Gitarren oder Bassspuren in deiner nächsten Produktion den Producer vom Stuhl hauen!

1. Nutze eine externe DI Box anstatt den Eingang deines Interfaces. Durch die Nutzung einer DI Box bekommt dein Signal direkt mehr Klarheit und eine Bessere Qualität. Als würdest du ein Vorhang von deinen Boxen runternehmen.

2. Stelle deine Gitarre oder deines Basses richtig ein. Hier kommt es besonders darauf an, dass deine Gitarre Bundrein ist.

3. Ziehe frische Saiten auf! Nichts macht deinen Sound so schnell kaputt und langweilig wie alte, rostige Saiten.

4. Stelle den richtigen Pegel ein beim aufnehmen. Zu wenig, und das Signal ist nur schwer zu gebrauchen später beim Reamping oder im Mix; zu viel und das Signal kommt schnell ins Clipping und verzerrt. Ein guter Startwert ist hier -9 bis -6dB.

Mixing oder zu deutsch mischen beschreibt den Prozess, die einzelnen aufgenommen Spuren zu einem stimmigen Gesamtkonzept zu bringen.

Bei diesem Punkt ist es besonders wichtig, dass der Engineer auf eure Musikrichtung spezalisiert ist. Popmusik hat andere Anforderung als Hardcore oder Punk!

Bei modernen Produktionen mit vielen verzerrten und tiefer gestimmten Gitarren liegt die Kunst besonders darin, den Mittenbereich und das Low End in Einklang zu bringen.

Der Masteringprozess beschreibt klassisch die Aufbereitung deiner Tracks für die CD oder Vinylproduktion.
Heutzutage passiert beim Mastering meist noch viel mehr.

Vorbereitung für das Recording Studio 🎤🎛🎧

1. ÜBEN!

Der erste Punkt klingt banal, aber das wichtigste um aufzunehmen ist, dass ihre eure Parts im Schlaf könnt! Nichts killt mehr den Vibe beim aufnehmen, als schlechtsitzende Parts.
Übt auch auf Click zu spielen!

2. Stellt eure Gitarren und Bässe richtig ein. Wenn ihr euch das nicht selber zutraut, geht in einen Musikladen oder Gitarrenbauer eures Vertrauens oder holt euch Tipps und Tricks bei befreundeten Bands.
Euer Engineer steht euch auch mit Sicherheit mit Rat und Tat zur Seite.

3. Bereitet euch für die Aufnahme Guidetracks vor.
Guidetracks oder auch eine Preproduction sind Aufnahmen eurer Songs, die Qualitativ vielleicht nicht so gut sind, jedoch helfen sich beim eigentlichen Recording zurecht zu finden.
Eine Preproduction kann auch Schwachstellen in den Songs aufdecken.

3. prepare guide tracks for the recording.

A pre-production can also reveal weak points in the songs.

🏝 My 4 Plugins for the Lonely Island: 🏝

Plugin Alliance SSL 4000E Channel: There are 100 different plugins from analog consoles. The E-Channel and G-Channel of the legendary SSL consoles are particularly popular here. In the meantime, I currently prefer to work with the relatively new version of Plugin Alliance. Simply my go-to start as soon as I need to edit something on track. A little bit of nostalgia and love for the analog signal flow. Included in this channel strip: EQ, gate, compressor, filter and other useful tools. These can be arranged as desired in the classic SSL style.

Slate Digital Distressor: The all-purpose weapon when it comes to compressors. Next to an 1176, this is the one I use most on my tracks.
The Distressor is great on percussive tracks like drums or percussion, but it also does an excellent job on vocals or bass guitar.

Slate Digital Versuite Classics: The Versuite Classics are a large collection of old and newer reverbs. So far, I've always found the right room with it. I usually use it as a mixing effect for drums or for large vocal rooms.

Farbfilter Pro-Q3: The counterpart to the Distressor when it comes to EQ. The EQ can simply do everything! Special feature: the match function. This allows you to reproduce every possible EQ of a recording or apply the EQ curve to another signal.

In modern productions with sometimes more than 100 tracks per song, efficiency is key. With the help of routing templates and smaller and larger auxiliary programs, you can quickly get an overview.
One of these "little" helpers is Soundflow. �At the touch of a button, complex workflows are executed by a macro that would take ages without Soundflow.
With Soundflow, for example, various stems can be bounced without having to start the process again and again, import tracks can be added directly to the specific routing and folder and many other great things. Almost any custom workflow can be replaced by a script.
