Was Rojava surrendered? In an exclusive interview with The Amargi, journalist Irfan Aktan puts that question directly to Mazloum Abdi, commander of the now-dissolved Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF).

Abdi discusses the January 29 agreement with Damascus, which ended the SDF's independent military and administrative role in northeastern Syria and folded Kurdish forces into the Syrian state. He acknowledges the deal "wasn't what our people wished for," but argues it was necessary to prevent renewed war and mass displacement after the Global Coalition's withdrawal.

He also addresses Abdullah Ocalan's letter urging dialogue over war, Turkey's ongoing peace process, relations with Israel, and his own new role as an adviser to the Syrian presidency, calling the fight for constitutional guarantees for Kurds "an opportunity" the community must now organize to secure.
