Today, we commemorate the feast day of the Forefather Abraham. This icon depicts the moment from the Old Testament when three men visit Abraham and Sarah, revealing that a son will be born to the elderly, childless couple. Early Christian theologians interpreted this passage as a manifestation of the Holy Trinity.

This impressive little finely painted panel, dating back to the late 14th century, was likely once part of a larger composition. It was painted in a refined style with thin, delicate proportions, making it an exceptional example of late Byzantine painting.
