One of the best comment ever read online from a young patriotic Sierra Leonean named Abu Bakarr S Koroma under a post made by Stuntman Official against Magona of SL News Blog regarding the drug issue online👇🏽👇🏽
”One of the biggest problems we have as Africans, especially as Sierra Leoneans, is the lack of belief in ourselves. We are so quick to trust foreign countries, foreign opinions, and foreign validation, yet we constantly doubt our own people and our own nation.
If someone has money and gets sick, the first thought is to travel abroad for treatment. But when they arrive in Europe or America, many end up being treated by African doctors. Think about that for a second. We leave Africa believing everything outside is better, only to meet Africans excelling and leading in those same countries. The problem has never been our people, the problem is how we see ourselves.
Today, social media has made it worse. Anytime something negative happens, some Sierra Leoneans are the first to insult and disgrace the country in front of the world. Politics and tribalism have blinded many people to the point where they no longer care about the image of the nation. Some people already decide what to believe before hearing facts. If their political opponent says white, they will call it black.
The Atlantic Ocean does not belong only to Sierra Leone. Ships travel through many countries before reaching their destination, but somehow Sierra Leone is always the target of blame by its own citizens. Meanwhile, citizens of other African countries defend and promote their nations proudly, even when challenges exist.
The painful part is that we celebrate negativity more than positivity. We hardly praise our own culture, food, music, or achievements until foreigners recognize them first. Why do we wait for outsiders to tell us our value before we believe it ourselves?
Sierra Leone is not perfect, but no country is perfect. Development starts when citizens stop tearing each other down and start building together. We must put aside tribe, politics, hate, and ego and focus on unity, growth, and progress.
To the youth: love your country, support your people, protect the image of your nation, and never let anyone make you feel Sierra Leone has nothing good to offer. Change begins with the mindset of the people.
This is not hate speech. This is a wake-up call. A call for unity. A call for patriotism. A call to decolonize our minds and believe in Sierra Leone again 🇸🇱”
