Im Jahr 1952 hatte der ARD-Musikwettbewerb seine Premiere in München, wo ihn bis heute der Bayerische Rundfunk ausrichtet. Er gilt als der größte Wettbewerb für klassische Musik weltweit, da er jährlich in mehreren Fächern stattfindet und insgesamt 20 Wettbewerbskategorien umfasst. A historic first!
Selina Ott made history at the ARD Music Competition 2018 as the first woman ever to win 1st Prize in the trumpet category – at just 20 years old! Her electrifying performance of André Jolivet’s Trumpet Concerto No. 2 with the Symphonieorchester des Bayerischen Rundfunks under Joseph Bastian was a breathtaking mix of fire and precision.

👉 Jolivet wrote this concerto in 1954 for the legendary French trumpeter Maurice André, pushing technical and rhythmic boundaries with its jazz-inspired syncopations and daring cadenza-like passages.

✨ When a competition friendship turns into music! ✨

Violinist Judith Stapf 🎻 and harpist Alexandra Bidi 🌟 first crossed paths — and both triumphed — at the ARD Competition, whose spirit of community keeps young artists connected long after the awards are handed out.

Out of that bond they created a program that features, for example, Astor Piazzolla’s sultry “Café 1930” (Historia del Tango). Do you enjoy the snippet? 🤩

Their next stop with the program is 22 July • 20:00 in Paris at the Jeunes Talents Festival.
