U.S. and Russia Abandon Nigerian Ports for Togo's Lomé Port

The United States and Russia have shifted focus from Nigerian seaports to the Port of Lomé in Togo, seeking better maritime access and trade efficiency in West Africa.

Lomé’s deep seaport has become a rising hub due to its modern infrastructure, higher cargo handling capacity, and faster turnaround times. With annual throughput exceeding 30 million tons, the port now serves as a central gateway for container transshipment into the region.

Recently, U.S. officials visited the Lomé Container Terminal to explore business opportunities, citing its growing logistics and industrial zones. Russia, on the other hand, has signed a military cooperation deal with Togo, granting its naval vessels access to the port and expanding its regional influence.

The move comes amid complaints by Nigerian port operators over high handling charges, insecurity, and slow reforms—factors pushing cargo diversion to neighboring countries like Togo. This shift highlights the urgent need for Nigeria to make its ports more competitive and investor-friendly.

Former ANPP Members Give Conditions to Remain in APC

Former members of the defunct All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP) have outlined key conditions for their continued stay in the All Progressives Congress (APC), warning that failure to address them could lead to a mass exit.

Speaking under the aegis of the Coalition of Legacy Political Parties, they demanded the immediate implementation of the original merger agreement, which includes equitable sharing of appointments, recognition of founding party blocs, and restructuring of party leadership to reflect fairness. They also called for an emergency meeting of all legacy parties that formed the APC, stressing the need to restore internal democracy and balance.

The group expressed displeasure over what they described as sustained marginalization since the merger, urging President Bola Tinubu and the APC leadership to act swiftly to prevent internal crisis.

Nasarawa State Governor, Abdullahi Sule, has projected that more state governors will join the All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Speaking during an interview on Channels Television, Governor Sule said the APC remains a strong and attractive party due to its national reach and the leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. He noted that the ongoing political movements are typical in Nigeria's democratic space, especially as the next election cycle draws closer.

Governor Sule expressed confidence in the APC's ability to consolidate its strength, adding that the party’s performance at the federal level is already influencing politicians from opposition parties to consider defection.

Alaigbo Bleẹding, Ndigbo Dying — Ejiofor Cries Out Over Rising K!llings

Human rights lawyer and IPOB counsel, Sir Ifeanyi Ejiofor, has raised a strong alarm over the worsening security situation in the South East, lamenting that “Alaigbo is bleeding… Alaigbo is dying.” He said the region is under siege as innocent civilians continue to die in large numbers.

According to Ejiofor, farmlands have been taken over by armed herders and criminals, while many communities in Imo, Ebonyi, and Anambra states are gripped by fear. He accused the government of ignoring the k!lling and failing to enforce laws such as the ban on open grazing.

He also urged Southeast governors to rise in unity and defend their people through lawful means, warning that the silence of political leaders amounts to complicity in the ongoing violence.

Over 130 Security Agents K!lled in Ongoing Katsina Anti-Banditry War

The Katsina State Government has revealed that over 130 security personnel have lost their lives in the ongoing battle against banditry across the state. According to the Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, Dr. Nasiru Mua’zu, the casualties include more than 100 members of the Katsina Community Watch Corps, over 30 police officers, and several soldiers.

Despite the heavy toll, the government says progress has been made. Out of the 24 local government areas previously troubled by banditry, 11 are now fully stabilized, while nine others are showing signs of improvement. However, four LGAs — Faskari, Kankara, Safana, and Matazu — remain volatile, with frequent attacks still being reported.

Dr. Mua’zu urged residents to stay calm, avoid spreading fake news on social media, and continue cooperating with security operatives. The government also reiterated its commitment to supporting the families of fallen heroes and strengthening the state’s security framework.
