Sudan’s RSF K!lls 14 Civilians Fleeing Darfur City – Rights Group

At least 14 civilians attempting to escape a besieged city in Sudan’s Darfur region have been k!lled by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), according to a rights group report released on Monday.

The k!llings are the latest in a brut@l confl!ct that has raged for over 27 months between the RSF and the Sudanese army. The victims were reportedly trying to flee worsening violence and humanitarian conditions in the area.

Rights organisations have repeatedly accused the RSF of committing widespread atrocities, particularly in Darfur, where ethnic violence and targeted attacks have intensified.

‘I Went to a Prison-Like School’ — Kemi Badenoch’s Remarks on Nigeria Spark Backlash

Kemi Badenoch, a British Conservative Party leader and UK Secretary of State for Business and Trade, has once again stirred controversy following her latest remarks about Nigeria.

In a recent interview, Badenoch described her time at the Federal Government Girls College (FGGC) in Sagamu, Ogun State, as a “prison-like” experience. According to her, attending the school during her teenage years felt more like punishment than education.

Her statement has drawn criticism from several Nigerians on social media, who believe her comments unfairly portray the country’s education system in a negative light. While some acknowledged the tough conditions in many Nigerian boarding schools, others accused Badenoch of using her Nigerian background only when convenient.

This isn’t the first time Badenoch’s views on Nigeria have sparked public debate. As a high-profile British politician of Nigerian descent, her comments often attract significant attention.

Lagos Govt Declares 176 Estates Illegal, Issues 21-Day Ultimatum

The Lagos State Government has declared 176 housing estates illegal for lacking approved layouts, giving developers 21 days to regularise documents or face sanctions. The estates, mostly in Eti-Osa, Ajah, Ibeju-Lekki, and Epe, were flagged after an audit by the Ministry of Physical Planning. Affected estates include Adron Homes, Aina Gold Estate, Diamond Estate, Prime Water View Garden, and Royal View Estate. Developers must submit layout approvals at the Ministry’s Alausa office. The government also urged registration with LASRERA for proper regulation.

68 Migrants Dead, 74 Missing After Tragic Boat Capsize Off Yemen

At least 68 African migrants have died, and 74 others are still missing, after a smuggling boat carrying 154 Ethiopian nationals capsized off the coast of Yemen’s Abyan province in the early hours of Sunday, August 3, 2025.

According to the International Organization for Migration (IOM), only 12 survivors have been rescued as of Sunday night. The ill-fated vessel reportedly sank due to strong winds and rough seas while en route across the Gulf of Aden, a notorious migration corridor between the Horn of Africa and Yemen.

Local officials reported that 54 bodies were recovered from the beaches of Khanfar district, while 14 additional bodies were brought to a hospital morgue in Zinjibar, the provincial capital.

“This is yet another devastating reminder of the risks faced by migrants on this route,” said an IOM spokesperson, noting that rescue efforts are ongoing amid difficult sea conditions.

This is not the first such tragedy along the route. In March 2025, multiple shipwrecks claimed over 180 lives. Despite Yemen’s ongoing civil war, it remains a major transit point for migrants heading to Gulf countries in search of work.

The IOM and local authorities are calling for urgent international support to assist with rescue operations and address the growing humanitarian crisis.
