WEB WEB is starting a new chapter with Kover Kover. For the first time in the band’s ten-year history, the focus is not on original compositions, but exclusively on cover versions – a radical change of perspective that seems entirely consistent.

The musicians‘ stylistic openness inevitably led to an intriguing question: what would songs by Talking Heads, Kruder & Dorfmeister or Joe Jackson sound like if they had originally been penned by WEB WEB? The answer was obvious – you just had to put these pieces through the distinctive WEB WEB cosmos.
The idea: to interpret favourite songs from completely different musical worlds in such a way that they fit organically into one’s own musical language. The amazing thing is that it wasn’t particularly difficult. Because a really good song can be reduced to two essential components – a melody that you can sing along to and a harmonic structure that remains instantly recognisable even in its simplest form.

The Soulful Shack - Back for Good

Überall glückliche Gesichter, Bewegung bis in die letzte Saalecke, eine Feier der Soul-Musik, der Freude und des Lebens – ja, so war es auf der glorreichen Party zum 40-jährigen Geburtstag von Kölns erstem Soul Allnighter im September 2025.

Zuvor hatte es 30 Jahre keinen Soulful Shack mehr in Köln gegeben – das soll nicht mehr so bleiben! Unter dem Motto „back for good“ geht das DJ-Team mit Olaf Karnik und Frank Schäfer aus Köln und der Münchner Fraktion mit Reinhard Jellen und Michael Reinboth (Elaste, Compost Records) wieder an den Start im Stadtgarten – ein bis zweimal pro Jahr!
Als Gäste sind diesmal Inger, vom all-female DJ-Kollektiv 45 Degrees aus Hamburg und Robin Arroyo-Schneider, der schon vor über 30 Jahren das Kölner Team ergänzte, mit dabei.

Wie immer wird beim Soulful Shack ein breites Spektrum an Soul zu hören sein – 70s Grooves und Sixties Classics, Rare Groove und Philly Sound, Disco Soul und Crossover, Funky Stuff und Modern Movers, nicht zuletzt auch eine Dosis Northern Soul, womit vor 41 Jahren im kleinen Kölner Club Salznuss alles begonnen hatte.

Immer noch aktuell ist die zum 40. Geburtstag veröffentlichte Soulful Shack-Publikation, die die Geschichte von Deutschlands Soul-DJ-Team Nr. 1 zwischen 1985 und 1995 dokumentiert. Zum Sonderpreis von 5 Euro wird das 40-seitige Magazin an der Abendkasse erhältlich sein.
