من كبار أساتذة النقد الأدبي في مصر خلال النصف الثاني من القرن العشرين.
وُلد في 10 أبريل 1916 بمحافظة الدقهلية.
حصل عبدالقادر القط على شهادة البكالوريا من المدرسة التوفيقية عام 1934 ثم التحق بكلية الآداب قسم اللغة العربية بجامعة القاهرة. وفي عام 1945 سافر في بعثة لدراسة الأدب في انجلترا فتتلمذ على يد الأستاذ (ابري) المتخصص في الأدبين العربي والفارسى وحصل على درجة الدكتوراه في الأدب المقارن بعنوان
(مفهوم الشعر عند العرب كما يتمثل في كتاب الموازنة بين أبي تمام والبحتري).
عاد إلى القاهرة عام 1950؛ ليعمل في كلية الآداب جامعة عين شمس تحت رئاسة الدكتور مهدي علام والتي كانت في طور نشأتها وقد تدرج في المواقع الوظيفية حتى منصب العميد، وفي السياق نفسه رأس القط تحرير أربع مجلات ثقافية هي مجلة (المجلة) و(الشعر) و(المسرح) و(إبداع)، وقد انحاز في كتاباته في تلك المجلات إلى الاتجاهات الجديدة في الشعر العربي . انضم عبدالقادر القط إلى حزب الوفد في البداية ثم تركه لينتظم سنوات طويلة في حزب "مصر الفتاة" ثم تركه ايضا مؤثرا الاستقلال .
كان عبدالقادر القط مؤثرا في الحركة الادبية في مصر، حيث كان أحد أهم مؤسسي الندوة الأدبية الشهيرة في (مقهى عبدالله ) بالجيزة في الخمسينيات.

He returned to Cairo in 1950; to work in the Faculty of Arts, Ain Shams University, under the chairmanship of Dr. Mahdi Allam , which was in the process of its inception, has been included in the sites functional until the position of dean , and in the same context cat's head Liberation four cultural magazines is a magazine ( the magazine ) and ( hair) and ( theater ) and ( creativity) , has sided in his writings in those magazines to the new trends in poetry . Abdulkadir cat joined the Wafd Party in the beginning and then left to attend many years in the party, " Young Egypt " and then leave it also influential independence. Was Abdelkader cat moving in the literary movement in Egypt, where he was one of the main founders of the symposium 's famous literary ( Abdullah cafe ) in Giza in the fifties .
