Pietro Spagnoli in Nino Rota’s Il cappello di paglia di Firenze

Baritone Pietro Spagnoli joins the stage of the Opéra Royal de Wallonie–Liège this Sunday, 16 November, debuting the role of Nonancourt in Nino Rota’s Il cappello di paglia di Firenze.

This delightful comic opera, inspired by Eugène Labiche’s farce Un chapeau de paille d’Italie, comes to life under the musical direction of Leonardo Sini and the inventive staging of Damiano Michieletto.

After a wonderful start to the season with performances at the Royal Opera House and Teatro Filarmonico Verona , soprano Sara Cortolezzis now makes her House debut at the Staatsoper Stuttgart , singing the role of Desdemona in Verdi’s Otello.

Conducted by Vlad Iftinca and directed by Silvia Costa , this production features Alfred Kim in the title role, Daniel Mirosław .miroslaw as Jago, and Joseph Tancredi as Cassio.

Marie Gautrot returns as Carmen at the Estonian National Opera

Mezzo-soprano Marie Gautrot returns on 7 November to the Estonian National Opera , Tallinn, to reprise her celebrated portrayal of Carmen in Georges Bizet’s masterpiece. She has previously performed the role in this same production, directed and designed by Pierre-Emmanuel Rousseau (France).

Conducted by Mihhail Gerts (premiere) under the musical direction of Arvo Volmer , this visually striking staging reflects Rousseau’s vision of Carmen as “a woman haunted by fate and destiny, caught between men and superstition, religion and paganism,” returning to the raw, uncompromising spirit of Mérimée’s heroine.
