1. Since when are you infected by „the Oi!-Virus“?

I first heard C**kney Rejects I'm not a Fool when it came out,as a lad I knew at the time,came back from the town on a Saturday afternoon with it,after buying it.And I was instantly hooked to the raw sound of it,especially the guitar intro and when the bass kicks in then the drums,Classic.and Although some class them as Oi but they say their punk,that's when it grabbed me

2. What‘s your favorite Record?

Faviourite record would depend upon my mood I would say,as it can range from Back with a Bang to Hey Joe by Hendrix,I couldn't really name a faviourite as there's so many

The Business,Blitz,C**k Sparrer,C**kney Rejects and Angelic Upstarts.
Although some would say some are Punk,but their on the Oi albums apart from Blitz so it's open to discussion

Again it's hard to say as it varies,but any of the above from question 3

5. How do you see the development in the Scene about young bloods joining the Scene etc.?

It's not to bad as there's a steady flow of new bands coming and going,which is good,as music always needs new imput to stay fresh and not go stale

6. What‘s your Nickname and where does it came from?

My nickname is Spin,and I've been called that since about the age of 7-8.I knocked about with a lad who's nickname was Popeye,so somehow I got called Spinach,then it shortened to Spin with a few days

7. Where are you from? in which City do you live currently?

I was born,bred n raised in Newcastle Upon Tyne,in the north east of England,and I still live in the city and will no doubt will die in this city

8. What‘s your favorite Club?

I don't bother with clubs now unlike when I was younger,but when I went to them I used to like the Mayfair and Riverside,both sadly gone now

9. What‘s you favorite Festival?

Again there's quite a few I like so haven't really got a faviourite.But I like Punk n Disorderly in Berlin,as always enjoy visiting that city

10. What was your best Concert? When and where was that happening?

Ive been going to gigs since about the age of 14-15,so there's thousands I've been to.But one of my faviourite ones was seeing the Cult on their Electric tour in the 80s in Newcastle,I was the only Skinhead there amongst a sea of Goths,so stood out like a sore thumb,but it was great as got no s**t and the band played a fu***ng blinder

11. What was your first „self owned“ Record? (Vinyl or CD)

If you mean first record I bought,it was the Amazing Darts album by the Darts 1978,pure rock n roll,well it was for me at the time as I was 12 haha

12. What‘s going wrong in the nowadays and how could it be done in a better way in your opinion?

One word Politics.
Punk/Oi has always had a political edge to it I guess,as the bands sing about everyday life and the s**t the affects us etc,but I think now it's killed it a bit as your either this or that, or you believe in this or that.Music is there to enjoy and some folk forget that,and sadly the 80s for me was a better time with regards to Oi,as in attitude etc

13. What do love most in the Subculture?

I suppose for me,although I'm just casual now,I loved being a Skinhead and all it involved,music,the style,the attitude,the whole lot
It's something that never leaves you,if you were or are truely into it.
I still wear Levi's,Fred Perrys,etc although it's trainers instead of boots these days,
mind I've still got a pair of cherry red Dms from about 30 year ago,so they've lasted well,but rarely wear them now,but aye it's a subculture that won't die.I noticed it's become a bit more dilluted these days as it's not as aggressive and quite safe these days to be a Skinhead,but I guess that's the times now.
Looking back we paved the way for the new generation,with our attitudes and antics back in the 80,90s,but like any subculture it evolves as new blood gets involved,sometimes for the better but sometimes for the worst,depends on what era of Skinhead you ask I guess.

Everyone knows the Oi!-virus was created in a lab/studio somewhere in England just to make money and force the people to get wax(records).
But my brainwash jerny goes like this.

5. How do you see the development in the
Scene about young bloods joining the Scene etc.?

It’s different in every country. In general supculters are a dying thing. Some new kids show up for a year or two and then move on, as it’s always been. Quit a lot of new bands popping up which is great, but it’s not really any “young bloods” doing it. Internet has ruined the world and the natural progression to get in to the scene is gone.
The Hardcore scene is generally better at attracting younger people and it’s great that Oi and hardcore is once again starting to crossover more and more. Most of the skinhead scen is a big LARP.

6. What‘s your Nickname and where does it came from?

I go by either Daniel or Ekman, I don’t know why but someone told me it’s because my first name is Daniel and my last name is Ekman but I don’t know if I believe that.

7. Where are you from? in which City do you live currently?

I’m born and raised in a town called Falun in Dalarna Sweden, Dalarna is also known as the heart and most Swedish place in Sweden. Been living in Stockholm for the last 20 years.

8. What‘s your favorite Club?

Every club or bar in any city supporting subculture and alternative music is my favorite (pretentious haha).

9. What‘s you favorite Festival?

As a Swede, I have to say it was PSK (rip) in Stockholm. It hade its “problems” but the lineup was always amazing.
I try to go to these festivals every year:
Ain’t like you (endless summer), This is ska, Beach beer chaos (rip) and Pogoraush.

10. What was your best Concert? When and where was that happening?

To many and to blurry memories..
But to sound a little cool I say.

Everyone knows the current timeline got fu**ed up when they killed Harambe.
The world is a s**t show. And money talks making small venues and alternative spaces a thing of the past. We can only enjoy it as long as it lasts. On a big scale we can do nothing. On a small scale, go to concerts support the people who put up the shows. Buy a record or shirt from the Bands.

13. What do you love most in the Subculture?

You can travel anywhere in the world and go to a gig. And as long you’re not an as***le you will meet likeminded people and make friends, if that’s your thing.

14. What do you hate most in the Subculture?

Not counting the extreme politics.
Booze and glory reggae sessions.

I think it’s great when I see younger kids getting into and keeping the flame alive ! Definitely would like to see more of it but also for them to explore the Boss Reggae & Ska and not just Oi!

Davey The Kidd which is my DJ name , mostly chosen for my childish personality . And in High school some called me David Oi! Simply cos of the Oi! Music interest.

I’m from the San Fernando Valley! And still live here.

Idk , don’t really have a fave I guess

Montreal Oi! fest . And Punk rock blowing can be cool too.

Probably British Invasion 2K6 , got to see a lot of amazing bands for the first time , and experienced being tear gassed and a riot! Not that it was fun being tear gassed but it was quite the experience at 16 years old .

That’s a heavy question .
Biggest problems in the world is and will probably always be Homophobia and racism . But as far as how could that be better is beyond me.

5. Wie siehst Du die Entwicklung der Szene was zum Beispiel den Szenenachwuchs angeht?

Die Entwicklung finde ich sehr geil. Verschiedene Musikrichtungen kommen zusammen, viele gute neue Bands und weniger Grenzen und Verwachsungen. Als 32 Jährige gehöre ich nicht noch zum Nachwuchs? Haha

6. Wie lautet Dein Spitzname und woher kommt er?

Adam ist ein ganz seltener Name in Griechenland, so hab ich kein Spitzname gekriegt, außer "Dicker" bei meine beste Freunde und natürlich "malaka" wie alle Griechen

7. Woher kommst du? In welcher Stadt wohnst du aktuell?

Ich komme aus Thessaloniki, Griechenland aber wohne aktuell in Berlin.

Punk & Disorderly

10. Welches war Dein bestes Konzert? Wann und wo war das?

- P & D 2016 mein erstes mal in Berlin mit Freunde und so viele Lieblingsbände gesehen
- Non Servium in SO36 letztes Jahr, wo wir mit Pempti Kasta mitgespielt haben. Ein Traum ist wahr bekommen.

11. Welche war Dein erstes selbst gekauftes Album?(Vinyl oder CD)

Ganz schwer zu errinern. Muss irgendwelches Rock oder Metal CD sein. Von Punk rock muss es was von Clash, Ramones oder S*x Pistols gewesen.

12. Was läuft Deiner Meinung nach nicht so gut in der Szene und wie könnte man es besser machen?

Gute neue Bands von neue Leute die nicht im bekannter Labels oder Veranstalters Kreis sind könnten mehr unterstützt werden und nicht immer die gleiche Bands/Leute den Slots für Festivals und große Konzerte kriegen.

13. Was liebst du am meisten der Subkultur?

Dass es eine große internationale Familie mit mehr oder weniger gleiche Werte und Ideen ist.

1. Since when are you infected by „the Oi!-Virus“?

I first got into Oi! in the early 90s when I discovered the old Oi! compilations like Strength Thru Oi! I started to look into the bands and buying their music from independent record shops and record fayres.

2. What‘s your favorite Record?

That's tough, as there are so many records that mean something special to me.
Seeing as this is about Oi! though, I will choose Suburban Rebels by The Business.
It has a couple of weak tracks on it, but the good stuff makes it a classic and was a big part of the soundtrack to my younger years.

3. Name your 5 Top-Bands in Oi!

Blitz
The Business
Crown Court
Komintern Sect
Tear Up

Tried to mix it up with a bit of old and new stuff, but those are the most played on my record player.

4. Most liked Band of the Scene?

My personal favourite is The Business, but looking at the bigger scene I'd probably say C**k Sparrer... Banging sing along tunes and nice blokes to boot!

5. How do you see the development in the Scene about young bloods joining the Scene etc.?

There are some great younger bands coming through right now.
Tear Up are making waves both in the UK and Europe.
Sympos from Ireland and An Slua from Galway are both releasing great material.
There are new bands popping up all the time and it's great to see.
I think it helps when hardcore bands like Haywire show their roots and promote the Oi! scene alongside the hardcore stuff.

6. What‘s your Nickname and where does it came from?

In the army - Brandsy

7. Where are you from? in which City do you live currently?

I was born in Inverness in the Highlands of Scotland and now live in Cornwall on the South West of England.

Monkeys, Hamburg.

9. What‘s you favorite Festival?

Revolution Calling, Eindhoven.

10. What was your best Concert? When and where was that happening?

I think as a performer, Rebellion 2018 when my old band, Arch Rivals, played the Club Casbah stage.
The sound was brilliant and it was the biggest audience we'd played to up to that point maybe 1500.
Either that or when my new Band, Unrivalled, played at the Underground in Plymouth, a 200 capacity venue, and we had to stop the show to stop a potential brawl...

11. What was your first „self owned“ Record? (Vinyl or CD)

I know I owned some records as a kid that my parents gave to me, mainly old rock n roll stuff, but the first record I remember buying myself was Kiss - Unholy in 1992.
I've always liked rock and metal as well as punk and Oi!
It was ltd edition white vinyl.

12. What‘s going wrong in the scene nowadays and how could it be done in a better way in your opinion?

There is so much bitching and backstabbing amongst bands and promoters, there's always a "he said/she said" argument going on somewhere.
Often it's the same people involved, so intend to avoid interactions with them these days!

13. What do love most in the Subculture?

The friendships I have made from all over the world.
I've been lucky enough to meet some amazing people and make some amazing friends.

1. Since when are you infected by „the Oi!-Virus“?

I was about 14 when I really got into ska, then jumped to ska-punk, then to skinhead reggae and Oi. I started shaving my head when I was about 16.

2. What‘s your favorite Record?

It’s a tie between “Music for Hooligans” by The Oppressed and “Bronka y Rebelión” by Kaos Urbano.

3. Name your 5 Top-Bands in Oi!

In no specific order: The Oppressed, Perkele, The Business, Vanilla Muffins and Nacidos del Odio.

4. Most liked Band of of the Scene?

From the local scene, Filero, we’re good friends, we support the same team (Pumas) and they switch it up between Oi!, street punk and hardcore.

5. How do you see the development in the Scene about young bloods joining the Scene etc.?

I think here in Mexico most young people joining the scene are children of someone who is or was in the scene. It’s pretty cool to see that they inherit this thing of ours, but it’s sad to not see that many new kids at shows who are simply drawn to it. I think that other subcultures and music styles are having a bigger boom here, like reggaeton, corridos tumbados and even Postpunk is having a big revival. Also the situation of violence on the country draws young kids to organized crime s**t and not that much to subcultures. Some of us in the scene are turning 30 and we are still the youngest ones.

6. What‘s your Nickname and where does it came from?

My friends call me Nando or Nandito, it’s essentially a short form of Fernando. But Nandito is also the nickname of a character in a Mexican soap opera called María la del Barrio and he is a young kid who is seduced by an older woman who is the villain and they bother me with that haha.

7. Where are you from? in which City do you live currently?

I was born and raised in Puebla, Mexico, pretty boring and conservative city with a small ska and punk scene, but I moved to Mexico City when I was 19 and have been living there for 11 years.

8. What‘s your favorite Club?

I don’t know if favorite, but I love going to an underground place called La Vecindad, it’s just a house and they open it up on Saturdays near el Chopo (a Punk flea market) and they let punks, metalheads, skins and other alternative people go in and drink cheap beer. It’s not registered or legal, it’s just someone’s house in the same neighborhood as el Chopo and it’s dirty, smelly, cheap, just the best. You always see friends there or meet new people from other scenes.

9. What‘s you favorite Festival?

We don’t have a lot of regular festivals here, but I went to Mondra & Roll in the Basque Country and it was my favorite.

10. What was your best Concert? When and where was that happening?

I think for me it was UltRASH 2018 in Potsdam. At the time I was living in Berlin for some months and went regularly with the skins from Babelsberg to football. In the concert I got to see amazing bands like Hors Controle, Bull Brigade, Grit, Rozpor and specially Brigadir from Russia.

Probably Orgullo Obrero by Non Servium

12. What‘s going wrong in the nowadays and how could it be done in a better way in your opinion?

I think the scene has to open up, I have always been a firm believer of Punk & Skin unity and I think it should spread out to other subcultures so that people get to know what skinheads are really about. Sometimes the scene is just too hermetic and skins just want to hang around skins even though we have a lot in common with other subcultures. I mean, cholos here in Mexico shave their heads, they love to drink and love to fight, we could start there haha.

13. What do love most in the Subculture?

I think this subculture goes beyond just music, it goes to football, politics, an extended family that you chose and just to know that you're not alone and you stand with a group of friends, small or big, against the world… it’s just the best fu***ng feeling ever.

1. Seit wann bist Du mit Oi! Virus infiziert?

- Seit dem 14 Lebensjahr.

2. Welches ist Dein Lieblingsalbum?

- Ich habe kein spezielles Lieblingsalbum. Es sind sehr viele Alben die ich gut finde.

3. Nenne deine Top 5 Bands?

- Volxsturm
- One Voice
- Rawside
- Verlorene Jungs
- Bierpatrioten
- usw.

4. Lieblingsband außerhalb der Subkultur?

- Sepultura

5. Wie siehst Du die Entwicklung der Szene was zum Beispiel den Szenenachwuchs angeht?

- Der Nachwuchs in der Szene ist sehr gering geworden über die Jahre. Man kann es auf die jetzige Zeit schieben. Und das Interesse für die Skinhead Szene nicht vorhanden ist. Vereinzelt interessieren sich doch noch junge Menschen in die Szene. Was ich natürlich befürworte. Es gibt ein Sprichwort , weniger ist mehr. Man muss die Szene wollen, und es fühlen. Einfach nur mit dabei zusein , ist nicht alles. Es kann auch viel kaputt.... vor allem die Szene.

- Resi ....

7. Woher kommst du? In welcher Stadt wohnst du aktuell?

- Ich komme aus Deutschland
- Wohnsitz in Bitterfeld

- ich habe keinen Lieblingsclub. Ich fühle mich in mehreren Clubs sehr wohl.

- ich habe kein Lieblingsfestival

10. Welches war Dein bestes Konzert? Wann und wo war das?

- Ich habe echt kein Favoriten , was mein bestes Konzert war. Ich finde jedes Konzert einzigartig, auch von der Stimmung her. Daher kann ich nicht sagen , das war das beste Konzert.

- wir müssten klarere Zeichen setzen gegen Intoleranz, und Faschismus.

- die Freiheit in der Szene. Und die Vielfalt.

Q&A Donnerstag! Heute haben wir Tommy Tornado zu Gast! Er ist bekannt als Dj und singt in der aufstrebenden Band Detønation!

1. Seit wann bist Du mit Oi! Virus infiziert?

Wahrscheinlich seit Anfang/Mitte der 2000er als ich ungefähr 16/17 war und das erste mal bei nem Kumpel Verlorene Jungs gehört habe. Das hat damals schon ziemlich eingeschlagen bei mir. Den Weg zum Skinhead Kult hab ich so richtig allerdings erst deutlich später gefunden.

2. Welches ist Dein Lieblingsalbum?

Boah das ist echt ne schwere Frage! Das ändert sich ständig. Zurzeit würde ich sagen Behind the Concrete Veil von Lost Legion.

5. Wie siehst Du die Entwicklung der Szene was zum Beispiel den Szenenachwuchs angeht?

Hier in Dresden sieht das alles sehr prächtig aus zur Zeit. Es gibt ne ganze Menge junge Skins die die ganze Sache ordentlich aufleben lassen und den Kopf auch nicht NUR zum Haareschneiden haben. Der Kult stirbt nie!

6. Wie lautet Dein Spitzname und woher kommt er?

Ich hab keinen Spitznamen(außer die die meine Frau mir gibt aber die verrate ich nicht...) Wenn man mit bürgerlichem Namen Tommy heisst reicht das aber auch denk ich.

7. Woher kommst du? In welcher Stadt wohnst du aktuell?

Ich komme gebürtig aus Kamenz und wohne aber schon seit ca.14 Jahren oder so in Dresden.

8. Welcher ist Dein Lieblingsclub?

Chemiefabrik Dresden wobei der Ostpol Dresden auch ein grandioser Wohlfühlort für mich ist und sich das im Prinzip die Waage hält.

9. Welches ist dein Lieblingsfestival?

Da ich nicht gerne zelte wenns nicht sein muss auf jeden Fall das Contra Bash! Das ist nämlich drinnen und ich kann schön zuhause in meinem Bettchen schlafen. Aber wenn so richtig Festival mit draußen und asozial stinken und so dann hat mir das Ain't like you bisher sehr gut gefallen.

10. Welches war Dein bestes Konzert? Wann und wo war das?

Übelst schwere Frage ey! Da hab ich einfach schon zuviele saugute Konzerte gesehen um das zu beantworten. Das erste mal Beton Armé in der Chemo ist mir zumindest schon sehr in Erinnerung geblieben.

11. Welche war Dein erstes selbst gekauftes Album?(Vinyl oder CD)

Meine erste selbstgekaufte CD war die Maxi Single zu Pretty fly von The Offspring.
Da war ich wahrscheinlich 12 oder so.
Das erste selbst gekaufte Album wird wohl irgendwas von den Onkelz gewesen sein befürchte ich...

12. Was läuft Deiner Meinung nach nicht so gut in der Szene und wie könnte man es besser machen?

Ich kann es auf jeden Fall gar nicht ab wenn zu jedem noch so komplizierten Thema von irgendwelchen Schlaubergern kollektiv darüber entschieden wird wie man dieses und jenes zu sehen hat. Oi! hat für mich jedenfalls schon immer bedeutet dass man seinen Glatzkopf zum selber Denken hat.

13. Was liebst du am meisten an der Subkultur?

Das ich mich egal wo ich hinkomme wenn ich Gleichgesinnte treffe direkt ein Bisschen wie Zuhause fühle. Die meistens ziemlich entspannte Stimmung auf Konzerten definitiv auch. Seien wir mal ehrlich in jedem durchschnittlichen Mainstream Club gibt es doch mehr Stress als auf einem Oi! Konzert. Mit schwer angetrunkenen Männern mittleren Alters über Mode zu diskutieren ist auch immer wieder aufs neue sehr schön!
