Hiking in Saxon Switzerland 🥾

Nope, not in Switzerland! Despite the name this beauty is in eastern Germany!

On a chilly autumn morning, mist covering the towering rocks, trails filled with crisp leaves, and the air smelled like moss & pine, We hiked to the top of Saxon Switzerland and got to see the famous Bastei Bridge. It felt like a happy dream, the kind that keeps you warm every time you think back on it. ❤️

Standing tall in the heart of Dresden, the Frauenkirche (Church of Our Lady) is more than just stunning baroque architecture. Originally built in the 18th century, it was completely destroyed during World War II. For decades, its ruins stood as a war memorial. After German reunification, the church was rebuilt using original stones, piece by piece, and reopened in 2005.

Its elegant dome now watches over Dresden again, offering panoramic views of the city from the top 😍

Dresden is a story of destruction and rebirth. Once nearly reduced to rubble during WWII, it’s now a living testament to human resilience. Walking through the Altstadt, you can feel history breathing between restored facades and cobbled streets.

Cuxhaven sits right at the point where the Elbe River flows into the North Sea which means you can stand and literally watch massive ships sail by on their way to and from Hamburg.

Cuxhaven is part of the Wadden Sea National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. When the tide goes out, you can walk on the sea floor! Yes!! barefoot through mud, spotting crabs and worms. It’s weird, messy, and awesome (not for me)🤪

Strolling through Hamburg city 🚢

Fun fact: the hamburger isn’t named after ham, it’s actually named after Hamburg, Germany! 🇩🇪🍔

Back in the day, sailors and immigrants from Hamburg brought a dish called the Hamburg steak to the U.S., which was basically minced beef shaped into a patty. Americans looked at it, slapped it between two buns (as they do 😄), and boom, the hamburger was born!!

So no, Hamburg doesn’t smell like grilled patties… but it is the accidental godfather of your favorite fast food!

Now I can officially say: I’ve been to the home of the hamburger and no, they didn’t serve me fries with that. 😂🍟
