Meet Pirastro artist Matt Brewer: He is one of the most in-demand bassists of his generation, known for his work with Gonzalo Rubalcaba, the SFJAZZ Collective, Chris Potter, Steve Lehman, Mark Turner, and many others. He appears on hundreds of recordings and has released three acclaimed albums as a leader. He currently teaches at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music and Temple University.

Here you can see how the color code at the peg end looks like with our new Perpetual "Stark" double bass strings. Each string of the Orchestra Set Stark has an olive green ring added at the peg end compared to the Orchestra Set Mittel.

Following the great success of our Perpetual G- and D-string "Stark" we created a whole set "Stark" to offer even more possibilities to players who appreciated these strings because of their hybrid function when playing with bow and pizzicato.

Are you wondering how the new Perpetual „Orchestra Stark” compare to the original "Orchestra Mittel" set regarding gauge and string tension? Although thicker in gauge the "Stark” strings do not feel noticeably higher in tension than the "Mittel" and still range within the tensions of a medium tension string set for double bass.

Did you guess correctly? This week we are highlighting our Perpetual double bass strings with the new "Orchestra Set Stark".

The new Perpetual "Stark” strings for double bass are a wholly unique development that in comparison to Perpetual "Mittel” have a fuller and warmer sound, with an especially high gauge. They are the thickest strings in our steel string range, and yet their string tensions remain close to those of the Perpetual "Mittel” strings. Thanks to their special construction, the strings generate immense volume and can be played with surprising and incredible ease.

We were excited to join the Golden Gate Bass Camp in San Francisco. Golden Gate Bass Camp is a five day long musical exploration of all aspects of playing the bass and has been supported for many years by Pirastro.

This year 3 bassists choosen by a raffle have received a set of PIRASTRO double bass strings. Congratulations to the musicians!

A few months ago string instrument students joined Sarasate Academy in Madrid as well as Engers Academy near Koblenz (which were both founded by Pirastro artist Kirill Troussov) to take part in a Masterclass program to enhance their skills in their chosen string instrument. The most talented students received a certificate awarded by Pirastro. Congratulations to all students on completing their program!

We are looking back at the annual Awards concert of Le Dimore del Quartetto. Le Dimore del Quartetto is a creative cultural enterprise that enhances chamber music and the European cultural heritage. Because Pirastro is the exclusive string partner of Le Dimore del Quartetto, at the annual award concert a nominated string quartet receives the PIRASTRO prize, including an individual string consultation and a quartet set of PIRASTRO strings and rosin.

Dutch violinist Janine Jansen helped us create our new Evah Pirazzi Neo string set. Janine has worked with the world's most famous orchestras and ensembles such as the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra, London Symphony Orchestra and Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra. Janine is also a passionate chamber musician and the Artistic Director of the International Chamber Music Festival Utrecht, which she founded in 2003.

We are excited that Janine is part of our Pirastro Artist Family and has collaborated with us to create the Evah Pirazzi Neo Violin Strings.

It was a pleasure designing the new Evah Pirazzi Neo strings in close collaboration with Janine Jansen. When creating new string sets, we always conduct several trial phases based on personal contact and exchange with musicians. This was also the case with the new Evah Pirazzi Neo violin strings. After many conversations, we learned what Janine's specific wishes were and what she wanted the strings should sound like.

In the words of Janine Jansen: “Excellent malleable sound, big, powerful, centered, noble and luminous. The strings stay in tune incredibly quickly, are very easy to work with from the start and feel extremely comfortable under the fingers.”
