THE KITCHEN (R)EVOLUTION

Welcome to the kitchen of the future.

Would that be something for you or would you rather not be guided through the cooking procedure this way?

WILL TWO SURFERS SAVE THE OCEANS?

What you see here is the brilliant innovation called Seabin.

Pete Ceglinski and Andrew Turton’s, two surfers, want to help tame the ocean trash problem with it.

How?

Their Seabin pumps in water, collects floating waste in a bag, and sends the clean water back out into the sea. It’s designed to catch plastics, oils, fuels, soaps, and other trash in the water.

Yes, we do need more genius inventions like this. However, the best way to deal with litter is to produce as little as possible.

WHAT DO PUPPIES AND INNOVATORS HAVE IN COMMON?

They need to be perseverant and ready to embrace failure to achieve their goals.

They need a true never-give-up mindset – like that cutie here.

Can you think of any other similarities?

ROAD RESURFACING WITHOUT STOPPING TRAFFIC

This is another example of how to repair roads without producing traffic jams.
In Switzerland, a mobile flyover bridge is used to keep vehicles moving at 60 km/h in two lanes, while critical road work takes place underneath.
No full closures. No endless detours. Thanks to brilliant engineering.

And if you're into Lean, you might realize that this is an example of how to use SMED in real life (Single-Minute Exchange of Die):
– Converting as many changeover steps to “external”, done while the process is still running, by using prefabricated bridge modules.
– Streamline what’s left by fast assembly and minimal disruption.

This is what happens when infrastructure meets smart design and lean innovation.
Thanks to Marti Technik AG & Bundesamt für Strassen ASTRA for turning the A1 (direction Zurich) into a real-world case study in out-of-the-box problem solving.

AND WHO CARES FOR DOCTORS?

Obviously those who invented this seating aid, demonstrated by a surgeon in this video.

In fact, many surgeons suffer from back issues, often due to awkward positioning and standing for long periods during operations.

So this looks like a big relief for them.

Do you see any other use cases?

HOW TO STAY MOBILE DESPITE A BROKEN ARM

Meet this innovative immobilization net that is applied faster, helps patients heal more comfortably, and helps medical providers streamline their care.

The liquid-filled Cast21 is an amazing alternative to traditional cast. The raisin becomes solid very quickly and thus, also due to its breathable and waterproof design, the immobilization net allows fractures to heal much more comfortably than with a traditional cast – while patients stay mobile and are able to continue they daily activities.

Isn’t that great?

WHY REINVENT THE WHEEL?

Why discard what worked well in the past? Why not combine it with the new?

Look at this staircase without bottom support.

The Catalan vault or Escalera bóveda is a 700-year-old traditional architectural technique that uses thin bricks or tiles laid flat rather than on their edges to create a lightweight, self-supporting vaulted structure.

Before you discard something, think about how to combine it with present needs and technology.

That’s innovation, too.

WHEN THE EARTH STARTS TO SHAKE

Watch how seismic protection technology keeps buildings safe during an earthquake.
In this demo, you see structures shaking – except for one, which is supported by an advanced seismic isolation system, designed to dramatically reduce ground-motion impact during major quakes.

Events like the 2011 Fukushima earthquake reminded the world how critical it is to invest in resilient infrastructure. Modern seismic isolation isn’t just an upgrade – it’s a lifeline. These technologies help stabilize buildings, protect communities, and ensure that essential facilities remain operational when they’re needed most.

As global environmental conditions evolve, the risk landscape is changing. While climate change doesn’t directly cause earthquakes, it can contribute to secondary effects – such as sea-level rise, extreme rainfall, and reservoir-related stress – that may influence seismic activity in certain regions. All of this makes proactive structural protection more important than ever.

– Stronger buildings = safer communities.– Smarter technology = a more resilient future.

If you’re looking for the next step in structural safety, start by looking beneath the building.

EASIER CARE FOR PEOPLE WITH MOBILITY ISSUES

Caring for individuals with mobility issues is challenging from different perspectives.

Also because caregivers are left to perform physically demanding maneuvers, risking their own health, while trying to provide the best care possible.

It shouldn’t be that hard. It needn’t be that hard.

Solutions like this one are actually a big relief on either side, while elevating dramatically the standard of care, comfort, and safety in a simple way.

So let’s build a future, where quality care is accessible, safe, and less physically demanding.

THIS IS GERMANY IN ONE PICTURE

No, this pic is not AI-generated, although it’s hard to believe.
What we see here:
– a piece of artificial turf protecting the mudguard
– dual-piston hydraulic brakes
– a rearview mirror
– a bike computer
– bullhorn handlebars
– at least three bells
– various locks

All mounted, well thought-out, thoroughly secured.

What you can also see in the picture:
– rotting concrete– a patched wall that has seen better days– piled-up rotten leaves – certainly with the help of a leaf blower

And what does this pic tell us about Germany?

It tells us, where Germany is heading.
It tells us about innovation activities in Germany.
It tells us about over-engineering on the one side and standstill on the other – about wrong priorities.

So we wonder about the future of a country that once stood for technological leadership, while real innovation seems to have come to a halt. While fear has taken over. While focuses go in the wrong direction.

So could everybody remember their strengths, please, and use them?

Because innovation is not about putting a piece of artificial turf around a mudguard.

MIND-CONTROLLED PROSTHETIC FOR JUST $300

This 17-year old used AI to build a mind-controlled prosthetic for just $300.

What an incredible innovation from a brilliant young mind, who developed a novel mind-controlled bionic arm disrupting the prosthetics industry.

Using non-invasive electrodes placed on the forehead, his technology captures residual electrical signals to interpret frontal lobe brainwave activity.

What makes this breakthrough truly exceptional:

– He developed a complex AI-based algorithm to interpret thoughts from scalp electrical activity
– He achieved performance comparable to leading $450,000 invasive prosthetics
– He built a durable, lightweight solution requiring zero surgery

At a total production cost of less than $300.

This innovation makes life-changing technology accessible to those who need it most.

The future of affordable, non-invasive prosthetics has arrived – created by a teenager.

CLEAR VISION, MORE COMFORT

Some jobs make it necessary for people to wear respirators for safety reasons. One of the challenges they come across while doing so are fogged visors.

This is solved with this battery-powered model, which ensures a constant supply of fresh air at the same time.

Even while wearing the respirator, people can take calls or do whatever is necessary.

What about facial hair? No problem.

This respirator is thus a big step towards combining safety with comfort at work.

Wahr use cases do you see?
