๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ฆ Fellow Tetyana Chubenko investigated the growing body of evidence surrounding torture facilities set up by Russian forces in Ukraineโ€™s occupied regions.

Her in-depth piece details how these โ€œkativniโ€, some located in basements of police stations or administrative buildings, were used for arbitrary detention, interrogation, and torture of civilians and prisoners of war. Testimonies and satellite data are helping human rights defenders piece together a disturbing map of these sites.

At the DW Global Media Forum 2025 MiCT Fellow and now Community Manager for East Africa Rafa Renas joined a powerful discussion on forgotten crises -from Sudan to Afghanistan- and the urgent need to rethink how journalism competes for attention in a saturated, distracted world.

๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ฆ Chasiv Yar, a strategic town in Donetsk, has become a gateway to eastern Ukraine. Its elevated position makes it a key target for Russian troops, and since April 2024, it's been the scene of one of the warโ€™s most intense battles.

Fellow Vladyslav Kravets, videographer at Suspilne News, followed the โ€œBlack Swanโ€ fire support company of the 225th separate assault battalion in a harrowing frontline report that captures both the chaos and courage of those defending the town.

War can leave deep scars, but for some, it can also inspire new beginnings.

Fellow Veronika Khorolska ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ฆ tells the story of former Ukrainian soldiers Yulia Makaruk and Ivan Monko, who met at the frontlines during service, fell in love, and later opened a flower shop ๐Ÿ’ in the city of Zaporizhzhia. โ€œIt all started when we were trying to find affordable flowers for our mothers. And we realized there was a gap we could fill,โ€ they explain. Now, the shop provides flowers for weddings, anniversaries and special moments. A powerful symbol of how life, love and beauty can bloom even during war.

Yemen ๐Ÿ‡พ๐Ÿ‡ช is facing one of the worldโ€™s worst humanitarian crises. Over ten years of war have driven more than 4.5 million people from their homes. Many are now living in collective sites or camps for displaced people, without access to clean drinking water.

Fellow Mohammed Hafiz ู…ุญู…ุฏ ุญููŠุธ uncovers the situation of displaced Yemenis who are left with no choice but to drink water meant for agriculture -high in salinity and unsafe for consumption- facing serious health complications and long-term risks. With clean water scarce and safe alternatives out of reach, thousands are suffering the consequences of neglect and a worsening crisis.

The phrase โ€œthe place of your death is the place of your burialโ€ has become a harsh reflection of Sudanโ€™s reality. As conflict rages on, Khartoum is being marked by uncounted, unmarked graves, silent witnesses to warโ€™s devastation.

A chilling investigation by Fellow Wafa A.M. Ali and Mohammed Elkamel at ATAR Network exposes the hidden cemeteries of Sudanโ€™s capital, also revealing how mass graves have become an unsettling norm in the ongoing crisis.

The Hague Cheese๐Ÿง€๐ŸŽ™ is a podcast that makes sense of international justice in the context of the Russia-Ukraine conflict.

Launched by Fellow Olena Kurenkova, The Hague Cheese dives into how international law really works, and where it doesnโ€™t. Why the name? โ€œBecause international law is a bit like Swiss cheese ๐Ÿง€: we like it, it works, but it has holes. The Hague, well, we all know which city is the capital of international justice,โ€ Olena explains.

In each episode, in English and Ukrainian, Olena and her guests unpack complex legal concepts in an accessible, honest way, spotlighting the gaps, flaws, and the people trying to make the system better.

You can subscribe to support her Youtube channel here: https://www.youtube.com/

๐Ÿ‘‰ The Hague Cheese was developed under the Fellowship for Critical Voices, a project that supports journalists in conflict-affected areas. Since 2022, the Fellowship has helped over 160 Ukrainian journalists continue their vital work.

Fellow Ko Swe ๐Ÿ‡ฒ๐Ÿ‡ฒ and the Burma War Crimes Investigation team conducted on-the-ground investigations into a series of military airstrikes in southern Shan State and Karenni State in Myanmar.

Their findings are chilling: the military junta deliberately struck civilian infrastructure, including schools, hospitals, homes, and bridges, killing civilians, including children.
