Her in-depth piece details how these “kativni”, some located in basements of police stations or administrative buildings, were used for arbitrary detention, interrogation, and torture of civilians and prisoners of war. Testimonies and satellite data are helping human rights defenders piece together a disturbing map of these sites.

🇺🇦 Chasiv Yar, a strategic town in Donetsk, has become a gateway to eastern Ukraine. Its elevated position makes it a key target for Russian troops, and since April 2024, it's been the scene of one of the war’s most intense battles.

Fellow Veronika Khorolska 🇺🇦 tells the story of former Ukrainian soldiers Yulia Makaruk and Ivan Monko, who met at the frontlines during service, fell in love, and later opened a flower shop 💐 in the city of Zaporizhzhia. “It all started when we were trying to find affordable flowers for our mothers. And we realized there was a gap we could fill,” they explain. Now, the shop provides flowers for weddings, anniversaries and special moments. A powerful symbol of how life, love and beauty can bloom even during war.

Fellow Ko Swe 🇲🇲 and the Burma War Crimes Investigation team conducted on-the-ground investigations into a series of military airstrikes in southern Shan State and Karenni State in Myanmar.

Their findings are chilling: the military junta deliberately struck civilian infrastructure, including schools, hospitals, homes, and bridges, killing civilians, including children.
