Wir lieben Fotos unserer System in der freien Wildbahn. Hier ein schönes WLA-1 Setup. Sieht doch sehr aufgeräumt aus. Carrying on with my thoughts on bass / sub bass in 2023!
I had the opportunity to discuss this topic with several, experienced sound engineers over the last week and was surprised to learn that I was definitely not alone in my thoughts on this subject. Seems that a lot of sound engineers miss the ole "wallop" of old school bass bins and like me, feel that we have lost a layer of sound in current subwoofers - a "visceral" layer. You have heard it before I am sure "it's a tradeoff". Lower response requires larger, slower devices to create it. Smaller, lighter cones loaded into efficiently designed horn loaded or band-pass loaded enclosures may not get you down to 20Hz, but what it WILL do is knock the wind straight out of you. Believe me - I have direct experience lol.
With a show of hands, how many of you have stood in front of an array of these hammers? I have several personal experiences myself, but I believe that there may be a large contingent of engineers these days that never had the chance to feel that kind of pressure. You might have heard a few but I do not know where you would go to her a literal wall of them these days. Shame because I feel that once introduced, it will become something you carry with you going forward. Take a look at this monster - the Electro-Voice MTL4. EV may not be the path carving company they once were but man - they got it right with this and the MTL2 (half version). I would love to hear these again but with modern drivers, amplification and DSP!
