MY MUSICAL DNA // 01 🎸
Es gibt Platten, die man einfach gerne hört.
Und dann gibt es Platten, die etwas hinterlassen.
Die beeinflussen, wie man Groove hört, wie man Songs schreibt, wie Gitarren klingen dürfen oder wie wichtig es ist, dass bei aller Musikalität am Ende trotzdem der Song gewinnt.
Diese sechs gehören definitiv zu meiner musikalischen DNA:
Red Hot Chili Peppers – Blood Sugar S*x Magik
Groove, Funk und dieses unglaublich organische Zusammenspiel einer Band.
Giant – Time to Burn
Große Melodien, fantastische Gitarren und Songs, bei denen Musikalität und Hook perfekt zusammenkommen.
Guns N’ Roses – Appetite for Destruction
Energie, Dreck, Attitude – und Rockmusik, die niemals zu kontrolliert klingt.
Stevie Salas Colorcode – Back From The Living
Funk, Rock, Groove und eine Gitarrenwelt, die mir gezeigt hat, dass Rhythmus mindestens genauso wichtig sein kann wie das eigentliche Riff.
Mr. Big – Lean Into It
Unglaubliche Musiker – aber immer im Dienst des Songs. Virtuosität, Melodie und Rock in einer Kombination, die mich bis heute beeindruckt.
T.M. Stevens – BOOM
Bass. Funk. Rock. Energie. Persönlichkeit.
Musik, bei der Groove nicht nur ein Bestandteil ist, sondern das Fundament.
RHCP, Giant und Guns N’ Roses dürften viele kennen.
Stevie Salas, T.M. Stevens und vielleicht auch einige Seiten von Mr. Big stehen etwas weniger offensichtlich im Vordergrund – sind für meine eigene musikalische Entwicklung aber mindestens genauso wichtig.
Und genau aus solchen unterschiedlichen Einflüssen entsteht irgendwann etwas Eigenes.

And then there are records that leave something behind.
They change the way you hear groove, write songs, think about guitars – or remind you that no matter how much musicianship is involved, the song still has to win.
These six are definitely part of my musical DNA:

Groove, funk and that incredibly organic interaction of a band playing together.
Giant – Time to Burn
Big melodies, fantastic guitars and songs where musicianship and hooks come together perfectly.
Guns N’ Roses – Appetite for Destruction
Energy, dirt, attitude – and rock music that never feels too controlled.
Stevie Salas Colorcode – Back From The Living
Funk, rock, groove and a guitar approach that showed me rhythm can be just as important as the riff itself.
Mr. Big – Lean Into It
Incredible musicians, but always in service of the song. Virtuosity, melody and rock in a combination that still inspires me today.
T.M. Stevens – BOOM
Bass. Funk. Rock. Energy. Personality.
Music where groove isn't just part of the sound – it's the foundation.
RHCP, Giant and Guns N’ Roses will be familiar to many.
Stevie Salas, T.M. Stevens and perhaps some sides of Mr. Big may be less obvious influences – but they have been every bit as important to my own musical development.
And somewhere between all those different influences, you eventually find your own voice.
