Hon. Muntaka Mubarak
Minister for the Interior & Member of Parliament, Asawase Constituency

Today in Accra, I took part in a High-Level Regional Dialogue on the Drug Market in West Africa.

I highlighted the urgent need for collective action as the region faces a worrying surge in synthetic drugs and co***ne trafficking. West Africa’s drug landscape is changing at an unprecedented pace—synthetic substances are emerging in places they never existed, and long-established co***ne routes are shifting with remarkable agility.

I presented Ghana’s three-pronged approach to confronting this threat:

1. Enhancing operational readiness across our security and enforcement institutions.
2. Putting people at the heart of the drug response, ensuring that communities remain protected and resilient.
3. Deepening cooperation among national, regional, and international partners to strengthen collective impact.
I stressed the need for decisive action rather than rhetoric,
Our citizens are not asking us for eloquent speeches. They expect us to take decisions that shield their children, protect their borders, and strengthen their institutions.

The Netherlands Minister for Justice and Security, Hon. Foort Van Oosten, reinforced this message, underscoring the need for global partnership in tackling drug trafficking. He reminded participants that “no country can defeat drug trafficking alone, but together we can.” He reaffirmed the Netherlands’ commitment to supporting programmes that fight organised and transnational crime, assuring that efforts to confront this challenge will be intensified.

The dialogue seeks to strengthen a coordinated and resilient regional response to the escalating drug threat. Participants are expected to commit to concrete, measurable actions—at borders, within communities, and across national agencies—to safeguard West Africa’s future.

“Alhamdulilah, the contractor for the Sepe Timpom and Dote Intown roads is now onsite. Construction has officially begun and is expected to be completed within a year.

In just 11 months, Sepe will benefit from a modern state-of-the-art theatre at the Dote Clinic, newly asphalted intown roads, and two mechanized boreholes.

We remain grateful to the Minister of Interior and Member of Parliament, Hon. Muntaka Mubarak, and our dedicated MCE, Hon. Ben Abdallah Alhassan, for their unwavering commitment to the community.

Thank you.”

Earlier today in Tema, I commissioned four new patrol boats for the Marine Police Unit of the Ghana Police Service, an important step in strengthening maritime security and safeguarding our national interests.

This milestone reflects government’s ongoing commitment to transforming Ghana’s security landscape through innovation and deeper community engagement.

I emphasized the critical role of the blue economy in Ghana’s development agenda. With its vast potential for sustainable economic growth, job creation, and poverty reduction, the blue economy remains central to our national strategy.

The Ghana Marine Police Unit continues to play a vital role in ensuring law and order across our maritime domain—preventing piracy, securing marine resources, and protecting lives. The newly commissioned patrol boats will significantly boost the Unit’s operational capacity, enabling effective patrols, swift emergency response, and enhanced efforts to combat maritime crime.

These boats will support surveillance, rescue operations, anti-smuggling initiatives, and rapid response to distress calls, ensuring that our marine resources are protected from illegal exploitation.

I reassured the public that the Ministry of the Interior and the Government remain steadfast in our commitment to peace and security. We will continue to work tirelessly to ensure that every Ghanaian enjoys a safe and secure environment.

The commissioning of these patrol boats forms part of a broader government initiative to strengthen the Ghana Police Service and maintain law and order while protecting the strategic interests of our nation.

Work on Asawase Ultra-Modern Sports Complex Set to Begin Following Stakeholder Engagement Led by MCE

Asawase, Ghana — Preparations for the construction of the Ultra-Modern Multi-Purpose Sports Complex at Asawase Dogo Moro Park have taken a major step forward after the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) led a comprehensive community and stakeholder engagement yesterday. The meeting brought together chiefs, clergy, opinion leaders, and residents to officially announce and deliberate on the project, which is set to commence this week.

During the engagement, the MCE introduced Excel Fortune Company Limited, the contractor awarded the project. Construction is expected to last five months, after which the completed facility will be formally handed over to the Asawase community.

The MCE acknowledged the instrumental role played by Hon. Mohammed Muntaka Mubarak, Member of Parliament for Asawase, and the Hon. Minister for the Interior, whose dedicated lobbying and support ensured the project’s approval and commencement.

The upcoming sports complex is anticipated to significantly enhance sports development, promote youth participation, and provide a modern, functional space for community activities—marking a major milestone in local development.
