People think burnout looks like exhaustion.

It doesn't.

It looks like smiling while parts of you quietly collapse.
Like carrying everyone's weight until your own foundations crack.
Like losing pieces of yourself so slowly that nobody notices... not even you.

Burnout isn't a flame that suddenly ignites.

It's a slow feast.

A thousand tiny bites taken from your mind, your energy, your joy, your identity.
Day after day.
Task after task.
Expectation after expectation.

The frightening thing about mental collapse isn't the moment you break.

It's how long you can keep functioning while you're already falling apart.

How long you can answer messages.
Go to work.
Make plans.
Laugh at jokes.

While something inside you is quietly being consumed.

No demon consumed you.

No curse touched you.

No monster hunted you.

You simply gave too much of yourself to everything and everyone.

Until there was nothing left to feed the fire.

And by the time the damage becomes visible...
By the time the cracks begin to show...
By the time people finally ask if you're alright...

Half of you is already gone.

The most terrifying part?

The thing consuming you was never hiding in the darkness.

It was the life you kept surviving while forgetting how to live.
