Today we conclude our series of posts about the prize winners of “Nouve Musiche dalla Livenza” 2022.
The last piece is written on Roberto Piumini’s Italian nursery rhyme about spring water. The music of “Sorgente” by Matteo Guerrieri is born directly from the rhythm of the word and the theme of the original text, helping children to discover the “water spring” of their own voice.

“The fresh sound of the water that is born,
Ssss, friends, quiet… do you hear it?
The sound of this quiet and gentle water?”

We wish everyone to experience the same feeling of calmness and excitement and the same time, now that spring is here and the small streams start flowing again after maybe being frozen for winter.

Those who were attentive might have already gotten an idea about the shared topic of the pieces composed for “Nouve Musiche dalla Livenza”.
Alessia Calcagni’s piece “Indovina un po’ chi sono” is here to give you a bit more help, since its text is a riddle which leads to the same answer!

“Guess who I am!
I flow, I dance, and I often play.
I swim and I’m sweet
The drops play with me.
My bed is like a throne
I crash and I don’t get hurt
My friend is the sea.
I love the world, I help men.
I have friends of scales and feathers.
My name is actually…
RIVER!”

Today’s pick is “Rio Bo” by Claudio Ferrara!

This composition was written on a poem by Aldo Palazzeschi. It describes a small village by a stream that seems insignificant at first, but there is a great star shining always right above it.

“A star in love! Who knows
if not even
a big city has one.”

The music combines a playful piano accompaniment with two-part children’s choir, body percussion and other choreography.

Please welcome the second prize-winning piece of our series: “Livenza” by Maurizio Santoiemma!
Also recommended for school choirs, this piece is written for unison choir with piano accompaniment. The music is about the ancientness and friendliness of the Italian river Livenza; while the text speaks about the beauty and significance of the river, the piano evokes the river itself with melodic runs and trills.

The last month of winter has started; soon the spring will bring freshness, and nature will be reborn.
On this occasion, we would like to share a series of pieces with you over the next few weeks; pieces that were written for young voices in the framework of the “Nouve Musiche dalla Livenza” composition competition in 2022. And by the time we finish, we will arrive in spring 🙂

Let us get started with “Un po’ di Po” by Salvatore Rizzu!
The piece is recommended for school choirs, and is even structured like a lesson: it is a dialogue between a soprano voice and the rest of the choir. The text starts with geographical facts about the river Po, but soon starts wondering about the lessons to learn not about, but from the river: that we should welcome the people and experiences coming into our life the same way as the Po welcomes its tributaries.
