How can trust be rebuilt after it has been violated? How can we ensure that trust permeates within society?

Kingsley Omeihe, expert in marketing and entrepreneurship and speaker at , states that "trust can be rebuilt through verbal apologies, through explanations, and making concrete attempts to ensure that trust is adapted and accepted, and people recognizing that trust is essential.”

Nathan Law is a prominent pro-democracy activist from Hongkong who lives currently in exile in London. He gained international attention for his role in the Umbrella Movement of 2014 and later for his election as the youngest Legislative Councillor in history in 2016.

We were eager to hear Nathan's perspective on the implications that would follow from a decline of trust, particularly within society and towards institutions, and how it would impact our world in the upcoming decades.

Trust and safety are closely linked, but Indigenous peoples have historically had little reason to feel safe. The violence, silencing, and marginalization experienced by Sámi communities make it difficult for them to trust institutions that have failed to provide safe spaces. On the occasion of the Kultursymposium Weimar, Sámi artists, thinkers, guardians, and practitioners came together to talk about the issue of trust. Check out the full discussion in our media library: goethe.de/kultursymposium/media

The conversation was curated and moderated by Dr. Liisa-Rávná Finbog. The event was an initiative of the Goethe-Institut Norwegen, Goethe-Institut Schweden and the Goethe-Institut Finnland.

Trust between employers and employees plays a vital role in successfully implementing these models. Organisational psychologist Meisha-ann Martin talked about specific measures that organisations can adopt to create a trustworthy and safe working environment.

How can trust be translated into the physical world? Artist Yoann Bourgeois has found an extraordinary answer to this question! In his impressive performance on the opening night, he seemingly defies the laws of gravity and illustrates the importance of (self) trust, particularly in times of failure and despair, through a dance between falling and sudden ascent.
