SHOCKING CRACKDOWN: DSS Arrests Federal Workers in Abuja During Peaceful Protest
A disturbing scene unfolded in Abuja today as operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) reportedly arrested several federal civil servants who were peacefully protesting for their labour rights. The workers had gathered to demand the payment of wage awards and improved working conditions.
Protesters’ Demands Ignored
The demonstrators, largely made up of aggrieved federal workers, accused the government of neglecting its obligations. Instead of receiving a listening ear, they were met with force and arrests, sparking outrage among labour activists and civil society groups.
Protester’s Emotional Outburst
One visibly upset protester did not hold back his frustration. "Security operatives are arresting federal civil servants in Abuja today for staging a peaceful protest for our labour rights," he said. He further condemned the hypocrisy of the situation: "Later, one security personnel will come out and be complaining that he got only ₦2 million as benefits after 35 years of service."
Call for Mass Solidarity
The protest leader called on all federal government workers in the FCT to mobilize immediately in solidarity with their detained colleagues."Please let all federal government workers converge at the DSS Headquarters in support of our detained colleagues!" he declared. In a passionate message to security operatives, he warned: *"I personally warn the security personnel for harassing workers when they fight for their own rights. This is about you and your family too. Why do you always stand behind the politicians? Why!"
Public Outrage and Growing Tension
The arrests have triggered widespread condemnation online, with many Nigerians describing the government’s response as oppressive and anti-labour. Human rights groups have also begun raising concerns over the shrinking space for peaceful assembly and protest in the country.
