“If you’re applying as an au pair in Denmark, here are my biggest embassy interview tips based on my own experience!”
10 EMBASSY INTERVIEW TIPS FOR DENMARK AU PAIR 🇩🇰(Based on my own experience)
1. Know your host family by heart. 👨👩👧👦
Be ready to answer questions like:
* What are your host parents’ names?
* Which city or town do they live in?
* How many children do they have?
* What are the children’s names and ages?
* What will your daily duties be?
2. Understand the purpose of the Au Pair program. 🌍
If they ask, “Why do you want to become an au pair?”
❌ Don’t say:
“I want to work abroad and earn money.”
✅ Explain that the Au Pair program is a cultural exchange where you’ll experience Danish culture, learn the language, and live with a host family. Remember, you receive an allowance, not a salary.
3. Know the rules of being an au pair. 📖
Understand that:
* You receive an allowance, not a salary.
* Your residence permit is for the Au Pair program.
* You cannot take another job in Denmark while you’re an au pair.
* There are limits on working hours and you have scheduled days off.
This shows you’ve done your research.
4. Be honest, but don’t sound rehearsed. 🎤
The visa officer is verifying your application.
Don’t memorize long speeches. Answer confidently, naturally, and only what they’re asking.
5. Have a clear answer about your future plans. 🇵🇭
If they ask:
“What will you do after your Au Pair contract?”
A good answer is that you plan to return to the Philippines and use everything you’ve learned—your cultural experience, language skills, and personal growth—in your future there.
Avoid saying your main plan is to move to another country after Denmark.
6. Know why you want to learn Danish. 🗣️
Be ready to explain how learning Danish will help you communicate with your host family, understand the culture, and fully experience life in Denmark.
7. Stay calm when they ask tricky questions. 🤔
Some questions are asked in different ways just to see if your answers stay consistent.
Take your time, think, and answer honestly.
8. If you have a strong work background, explain your motivation well. 💼
This isn’t an official rule, but it’s something I’ve personally heard from other applicants. Some friends with many years of experience in high-level positions weren’t approved. We don’t know the exact reasons, but if you have a strong career background, be ready to clearly explain why you genuinely chose the Au Pair program and how your purpose is cultural exchange—not simply finding another way to work abroad.
9. Be consistent with everything in your application. ✅
Your interview answers should match the information you submitted in your application.
If you mention something different during the interview, the officer may ask more questions to clarify.
10. Relax and be yourself. 😊
The embassy isn’t looking for perfect English or perfect answers. They want to know if you’re genuine, understand the Au Pair program, and are applying for the right reasons.
✨ Good luck! Prepare well, answer honestly, and be confident. I hope to see you here in Denmark soon! 🇵🇭❤️🇩🇰
