In her work with photography, Alma Mølsted seeks to investigate and establish human relationships with nature. This is achieved especially with the natural elements that are immediately hidden from the naked eye or overlooked, including the hiding places of the sea.
Alma has a photograph in the exhibition, from a series shot in Iceland, whose coast is rich in diverse species of seaweed, which are to be found in a myriad of sizes, colors, textures, and patterns. Seaweed is also called 'the gold of the sea', as it is rich in many qualities that are often overlooked. Among other things, seaweed can restore destroyed ecosystems and absorb CO2 from the atmosphere, thereby reducing climate change. In addition, seaweed contains important nutrients, omega-3 fatty acids, vitamins, and minerals. Therefore seaweed is essential as a food source and contains several properties that are used in everything from cosmetics to fertilizer. By portraying the seaweed in an alienated environment, Alma wants to investigate what happens when a natural element is suddenly removed from its natural habitat and inserted into another environment characterized by human influence.
