Why do the Southern Neighborhoods matter to Nordic countries?
This was the central question CMS Interim Director Katja Lindskov Jacobsen was asked to address during her presentation at the CIOR Symposium, “Threats and Opportunities: NATO and the South”, held at Francisco de Vitoria University.
While Russia’s war in Ukraine continues to pose an immediate and critical challenge to NATO, growing Russian activity in Africa combined with other challenging developments, is calling for continued attention to NATO’s southern neighborhoods, underscoring the need for versatile capabilities across the alliance. Among other things, Katja emphasized that key to addressing these challenges is deepening the strategic cooperation with partners in NATO’s southern neighborhoods.
